Third-Party Weather Sealed Lenses for Pentax

Hello All,

I am new to the forums and kinda new to Pentax. I'm thinking of buying a K30 or K5, but am looking into weather sealed glass. So my question is...

Does anyone make weather sealed glass besides Pentax for the K30 or K5?

Thank you.

So far, i think no except in the huge tele lens from Sigma (but must be verified).

Otherwise, Pentax have those lens that are WR :

kit lens:

18-55/3.5-5.6
18-135/3.5-5.6
55-200/4-5.6

Better lens (Zoom):

16-50/2.8
50-135/2.8
60-250/4

Better lens (Prime):

DA*55/1.4
DFA 100/2.8 macro
DA*200/2.8
DA*300/4
DA 560/5.6

To be honest, with the Kit lens, if you accept to try mastering the basics (iso, aperture, speed) you can get a lot. if you want faster lens, there is some choice too.

The Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 Macro are the only two currently in production. Here's a helpful reference.

And those aren't currently available for Pentax. So basically, the only WR glass for Pentax is made by Pentax at the moment. The new Sigma 12-24mm didn't seem to come out for Pentax, either.

OT, but worryingly the new Sigma 17-70 doesn't seem to be available for Pentax either...

Is it WR? I am keen on this but waiting out for the DA*16-85, presumably a f2.8-4.0 as well. If the latter has Macro ability and perform like a DA* optically..... just take my money!

It's listed at B&H, not available yet though: Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG ASP HSM II Wide-Angle Zoom 204109. Does that mean it's eventually coming?

I spoke with a gentleman at Sigma the other day about how their 18-125 compares to the Pentax 18-135 regarding the Pentax designation of WR. He said the Sigma has moisture seals incorporated in the design and he feels that it is as "WR" as the Pentax in that regard.

I am considering a lens of that range for my K10D and I would like it to be as "WR" as possible.

Who knows...

Note that there is a D FA 100mm f2.8 Macro that is not WR. Only the new D FA 100mm f2.8 Macro WR version is weather resistant.

I doubt that. Considering the way Sigma misuses the "macro" designation to describe close-focus lenses, I expect they would call it WR if it was close to true. I once had a fellow rhyme off a great long list of Nikon lenses that were supposedly WR. It turns out these lenses have a weather seal at the mount, as used in the DA 17-70; not WR in the Pentax definition.

Adorama has the Sigma 12-24mm II in stock for Pentax, and it's supposed to be 'splash proof'
