Lunar Eclipse Lens Suggestions?

If the skies are clear and the temperature/wind chill aren't too ridiculous, I hope to take some photos of the eclipse with my K10D, and would appreciate some suggestions on lens choice. My options are a Pentax FA 80-320 or a Soligor C/D 500mm f/8 Reflex. I have gotten some decent full moon shots in the past with the 80-320 shooting at f/11-16. The greater magnification of the Soligor has an appeal, and a few test shots tonight (hand held, no less!) suggest it will do pretty well too. Opinions? By the way, using spot metering with either lens produces nicely exposed images!

Thanks,

Curt

Hi Curt, I went outside and did a practice run tonight with the K10D and Bigma + TC 1.4

This is the best one of the lot and I am not relly happy with it, should be sharper so tomorrow I'll leave the TC of.

Clearly I don't have the "eye" for this type of photography because I cannot fathom how you could not be happy with that shot!!

Hi Colleen,

It is a nice enought photo but lacks the, for a better word "crispness" that I'm looking for. At a an effective focal lenght of 1050 mm the slightes vibration will create blurr so I was very careful not to have vibration. That's why I'll try it tomorrow without the TC, if that doesn't do the trick I'll have to try something else.

Take care, Heinrich
