Practice, practice, practice....I'm so glad they have digital cams actually because if they didn't I'd have gone broke learning to be a photographer...I practice still and I'm a working pro now, supposedly...

No problem. We did have a few focus problems. That was our first movie with the 5DmkII and 50mm f1.4.

I am new to DSLR photography. I have used them to shoot movies, but the settings and decisions usually stay the same. Photography seems to be a different world.

I understand what iso, aperture, and shutter do, but how to make the decisions when shooting a photograph are very new to me. So the advice you gave is excellent. I didn't know some of the info you have.

I shot film for twenty years, with some pretty good results, and now I feel as though I am starting all over again.

Composition is more important than exposure. The camera can pretty much nail the exposure. If exposure was a problem, how come lots of HDR images look crap? Strive to learn how to see.

I would take inspiration from other photos. Don't be afraid to try anything new -- after all you can delete the stupid things later. The simplest things can alter the mood of a photo completely.
