Practice, practice, practice....I'm so glad they have digital cams actually because if they didn't I'd have gone broke learning to be a photographer...I practice still and I'm a working pro now, supposedly...

No problem. We did have a few focus problems. That was our first movie with the 5DmkII and 50mm f1.4.

I am new to DSLR photography. I have used them to shoot movies, but the settings and decisions usually stay the same. Photography seems to be a different world.

I understand what iso, aperture, and shutter do, but how to make the decisions when shooting a photograph are very new to me. So the advice you gave is excellent. I didn't know some of the info you have.

Thank you all.

That's priceless. I wonder what the modern digital version is? Your first 100,000?
At least - or so it would seem.

I shot film for twenty years, with some pretty good results, and now I feel as though I am starting all over again.

How the heck do I decide what to set my aperture, shutter, iso etc to get an amazing photo? I know it takes time to learn, are there and good video tutorials that show how different photos are taken. Example how long do I keep the shutter open for a long exposure? Or when I'm walking around, what are the settings I should keep in mind.
Spend some time exploring photos you like on a site like Flickr, or even here:

PentaxForums Exclusive Gallery - Pentax User Photo Gallery

Most of the pics will have the exposure information available, so you can see directly what settings the photographer used to create the pictures you like.

Composition is more important than exposure. The camera can pretty much nail the exposure. If exposure was a problem, how come lots of HDR images look crap? Strive to learn how to see.

I would take inspiration from other photos. Don't be afraid to try anything new -- after all you can delete the stupid things later. The simplest things can alter the mood of a photo completely.

Good video but it is jumpy on my pc. Is it because of my machine or 5DmkII makes only jumpy videos?
