Just held/used the K10d

Well our rep came in with a fully working K10d... (beta firmware still as has ISO 50-3200)..

Opinions:
- Sv mode is cool, just what I wanted, I put front dial as ISO and rear on Program-line shift, very nice to use..

- Weight and size did feel a lot more substantial than any previous Pentax DSLR even the D, more like my friends 20d..

- Autofocus: Don't even start me on that it was sooooo much faster than even the D or K100d, don't even bother comparing it to the DL/DS.. And I focused in some real dark spots in the office and it was still very quick and confident.. This was using the Sigma 18-50 kit lens too...

- Sound: AF was pretty soft, softer by far than the K100d and also shutter sounded good again (thinking of D not DS/K100d)..

Don't know what else to say, other than I am bloody eager to buy mine... no more doubts on whether I can settle with my K100d..

EDIT: I don't know if this is just the beta firmware but I noticed in the FN menu when you select ISO it is either 100,200,400 etc but when you use Sv mode it moves in half steps...

I wasn't allowed to remove the SD card, there is still an embargo on posting pictures from the beta firmware, as I guess the quality could change a little with the final firmware release...

And here you go making it even worse! Arrg!

The Sv mode is one of the things that I'm really looking forward to using. And your description of the AF sound and shutter sound just point out another unexpeted bonus with this camera. Then to hear how much faster the AF is just tops it all off. Thanks for more exciting info about this!

I'm pretty excited about this Camera too. It seems to have just the right features one would need; Shake reduction, dust removal system, weather and dust resistant, vertical battery grip, 10mp CCD. Looks like deal to me.

Wow....that K10D sounds great! I just got my K100D two days ago. While the new K10 sounds like it beats it easily, I'm still very glad that I went with the K100D. I'm very new to photography and this is my first DSLR. I didn't want an overly-complicated camera, and price was a big issue for me. From what I've read, the K10D w/lens is going to be around $1000. That's $413 more than I paid. I couldn't afford that, so I'm glad I have my camera to use now.

I agree, it sounds like a wonderful camera. I also just got a K100D (a couple weeks ago). I'm still learning all the features and how to use it to it's best potential, but I wouldn't mind if Santa got me a K10D!!!
