Sigma Lens Plan for Pentax [Interview]

Here's some good news! It looks like Sigma is confirming that their new lenses will be coming out for Pentax after all, with the exception of the 120-300mm of course.

Don't get why the 120-300 wouldn't be released eventually, especially if Pentax enters the FF market. Though, I suppose by the time that is fully materialized, the next version of the 120-300 will be out.(Seeing how Sigma loves to replace lens models on a regular basis, something Pentax could learn from)

Not sure if that answers the question about the sigma 150 and 180mm macro lenses. Will they or won't they?

I think that the question refers to only the recent lenses, i.e. the 17-70mm, 35mm, and 30mm.

I was a bit disappointed about what she said about the 120-300 i.e. not releasing a K-mount version in the foreseeable future. I just wonder how and why have they come to this conclusion?

confused dot com, I took answer to the second question as being that the 120-300 is the only one to be releases in the near future.

Because they don't think we will need it, they just want more pentax photographers to buy the 500mm f/4.5 APO EX

Which isn't a current Sigma lens...there is no Pentax 500mm f/4.5 EX APO HSM.

I wasn't aware they had discontinued it.

The current HSM version is listed for Sigma, Canon, Sony & Nikon. The Sigma version is listed at $4999, the rest are listed at $6000.

It wasn't available for at least half a year. They made a new batch probably with improved lens coating. Mine arrived days after the new batch was released about 15 months ago

The HSM? Because that is the only 500mm f/4.5 listed on the Sigma website, and there is no Pentax version. B&H has the non-HSM version, but not in stock.

No HSM - it is screw driven like previous lenses. I actually find it easier working with the screw even if it is slower. I can hear what the focus is doing and its less of an act of faith when tracking down birds and other fast wildlife.

well that is to encourage people to buy the SD1, a rather irksome marketing ploy for the rest of us who have to pay more for the lens though.
