Forgive my ignorance regarding this subject, but for basic purposes couldn't you just use the HDMI out to a monitor and a wired release?

Either way, +1.

You have my vote. Please, at least an SDK... or a pdf documenting the protocol...

I have been playing around with that idea:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/digital-processing-software-printing/1996...your-help.html
It's based on pkTriggercord, tho, so it shares the same limitations. And introduces all new bugs, too, of course.

This "petition" is now two months old. Are we assuming that Pentax is following this thread, or should @VoiceOfReason attempt to make direct contact?

We need to use a pointy stick on Adobe as well as Pentax, to make sure we get full compatibility with Lightroom and Photoshop.

Since Pentax said that if they get enough feedback from people wanting tethering they will look into it I figure we may as well have a petition here, so here goes.

Pentax, please give us tethering support!

-Scotty Bishop
I can't believe the K-5 doesn't do it, I thought I bought a "Digital SLR" so where's the digital connectivity Pentax? I recently joined a camera club, I now see why I'm the only Pentax user!

I would like to use tethering with table-top and macro, but only an SDK (compatible with the .NET Framework please) is also OK. Then we can do the rest ourselves.

Edit: And an SDK for managing EXIF in my files. Yes?

@ Sandy Hancock

It's mainly a studio thing, and specially product photography, and macro stills cry for it.

And generally whenever pros would have preferred medium format with a waist level (screen) instead of a look-through viewfinder in the film days
It makes composing much easier - if you got the time.

+1 for tethering support.

Pentax would do well to consider what the Magic Lantern project has done for Canon DSLRs and see their way to releasing an extensive SDK or, more radically, open sourcing their firmware completely.

Just a reminder that PKTether still exists and keeps being updated and tweaked from time to time.

I used the most recent version a day or two ago with my K-5 on a Win64 Pro PC to run some remote AF tests, and it was more stable than I remember, and worked fine.

I used PKTether last week for some macro shots, and it now does everything I need.
The bugs I knew about seem all to be gone (but I was using the program, not searching for bugs).

The only thing I don't like is using USB (no other possibility with the K200D).
USB 2.0 is specified for max. cable length of 2 m (that's why longer cables do not exist).

At my desktop, I risked it and connected 3 devices with 2+1m cables. The system runs every day 16-24 hours, and occasionally (about 3 times every day) one or all of the devices disconnect by themselves, and after 1-2 minutes connect again. Sometimes, but not often, they want admin rights to re-connect. And very seldom (about once every 2 months) this process ends with the BSOD.

I am not sure if a Pentax DSLR with micro USB plugs will allow indisturbed communication with 2m cables. The standard cables used with cameras are only 1 m.
