Yes, tethering to android tablets would be greatly appreciated!
Making the camera able to be tethered means any system with the right software application can be used. Tying it to one OS would be a huge mistake.

But of course! The more OS supported the better. What I ment is, I would appreciate if I could use my tablet, regardless of OS. Mine just happens to be powered by Android .

With a K-3 and a FluCard most of that functionality is taken care of, isn't it?

Now that Pentax has introduced it in the K3, is it possible to introduce it in a similar way by firmware upgrade? Perhaps technically it can be done, but it would take away an incentive to upgrade...

Hmm not really no... You can't control the Camera via the FluCard, which what tethering is meant to allow you to do from a computer. The ability to control your Camera via the computer.
Flucard is just a file sharing device.. nothing more.

It provides tethering with full camera control and live view on the K-3.

This video shows that you can control Aperture, Focus en the shutter. It is at the end of the video.

Wireless LAN remote control operation

The K-3 accepts the optional O-FC1 FLUCARD FOR PENTAX 16GB to provide wireless LAN functions** using a smartphone or tablet computer. You can release the K-3’s shutter and change exposure settings from a distance while checking the Live View image, and download and browse captured images on your smartphone/tablet monitor.

** These functions are available with smartphones and tablet computers
supported by iOS and Android operating systems.

Most of their DSLRS should have support.. it's illogical why it was available once and taken away later..

Now they have a solution for the new camera so I can't see the reason to continue complaining.

When was it available in the past?
What makes you think it is being taken away, when we have just pointed out it is coming, soon?
