Very smart. Adobe not supporting their own format? Chuckles are in order.

Lightroom and Elements 6 accept my files, either DNG or PEF without any indigestion.

DNG is Digital negative format, developed by Adobe. There is absolutely no chance it will not be supported by their own products.

My K20D just came today, I stepped outside to shoot a few test shots. I shot RAW-DNG in Adobe color space & I was able to open them in PS CS3 & lightroom.

All the RAW DNG's I shot on the K20D were opened in PS CS3. The PEF's did not.

That was around the 25th of January.

Not only do my K20 DNGs open in Photoshop CS3, Bridge CS3 and Lightroom, they also open in Aperture 2.

Count me in the crowd where it works.

The problem is ACR destroys the sharpness and color quality like it did originally for the K10D... stupid ACR!

This is the post..........if any are interested.......

PEF file for K20D is not available with adobe softwares. It is quite normal, it is the case for all the other brands. It takes a while for that.

But, there is a big but, DNG files ofthe K20D, which are announced to be compatible with Adobe sofware do not work. It is impossible to ajust colors correctly.

The consequence. I can put my 2 new K20D in the cupboard waiting for software updates and go back to work with my K1ODs for a while.

I am really disappointed.

Yep, DNG files open in Aperture 2. Boy are they big.

I'm wondering about the color tweaking comment. Just a preliminary impression, but I do think tweaking the white balance with DNG is much harder than with the PEF. Anyone else see this?

Given how long it took Apple to support Nikon's D300, I think it could be awhile before PEF support comes to Aperture.

Shoot PEF and convert to DNG in PPL, the DNG files though huge will open without colour errors in ACR (they can of course be compressed using the Adobe DNG convertor). It's simply the price of being an early adopter.

That's not what I am seeing, I was able to shoot, open & adjust images in DNG format in Lightroom as usual.

I had no problems with DNG at low ISO opening into CS3 (ACR 4.something).

However...

Shooting test shots indoors in normal household lighting (pushing the limits) using a DA* 16-50mm at f4 (MTF program line), ISO 800 was bad ("worse" than k10d at 1600) and everything higher got worse -- this using Photoshop CS2 and ACR 3.7 (home machine this time).

Comparison swatches attached. Top pair's white balance is "As shot" and all else is flat, 0, no adjustments -- ONLY adjustment to bottom pair is adjusting white balance with the eyedropper.

No in-camera p.p. on either one (NR off, etc). You can see some JPEG artifacts around type, though -- that's all from the composite. Sorry, didn't want to upload a mega-file.

If I get a chance I'll try PEF and see if that makes a difference...
