Pentax in-store at Tiger Direct

OK, only K30 kits -- no additional lenses or other "stuff", but Tiger Direct in Miami has blue K30s on display and in boxes. The display body had no battery (or a dead battery, didn't open the bay), no SD card, and they weren't willing to slap a lens on it (doubtless there was a kit DAL18-55 in the cabinet), but they did have one side-by-side with the Canikon display bodies. You could pick it up and play with it (well, except that it had no lens, memory or juice...) $669 and change for the kit.

This is the absolute first time I have seen Pentax DSLR of any flavor on display anywhere in Miami.

The store guys were very enthusiastic about it, assured us that Tiger Direct had other Pentax "stuff" including lenses on their website, but in fact they don't. Only the K30 kits in the store.

Interesting that they displayed a blue one... it really REALLY stood out among all the black Canon/Nikon/Sony bodies.

The only camera store within 10 miles of me here in Virginia Beach was a poor Ritz Photo that finally went totally belly up couple months ago.....then surprised us all by reopening under new owners. Lo and behold for the first time every I saw Pentax bodies on the shelf. Only the small stuff but they claimed its all available and coming, just taking time to get fully stocked.

My wish has been granted.

Based solely upon mu own personal experiences with Tiger Direct I would hope that Pentax can forge better alliances that them. But, you gotta start somewhere.

My thoughts exactly. Their HQ is here in Miami, this was in their "main" store not far from the house. We stopped by to look for something else and had to pass the camera aisle -- there it was! Incredible.

But my experience with them is quite mixed, too. More than a year ago, when I was researching/shopping for a DSLR, they had a K-x in the store. In the box, locked in a cabinet... no demo model, nothing to play with. They would not even take the box out of the locked cabinet until/unless I bought it first. Nobody but the manager (who had the keys) could even touch the box before someone (not me, you may be sure) actually paid for the camera. I bought my K-r elsewhere. But after that experience, I was quite shocked to see the K30 demo body on display, and a couple of kit boxes behind the glass in the cabinet below.

The computer that I am typing this on, is a Tiger Direct build I finished about a week ago.
As far as Computer stuff, they are no NewEgg, but I was pretty happy with their online ordering and configuration. It was pretty slick and easy to build my PC through them.

I have no other experience buying anything other than PC stuff.

Generally I've had good experience with them for PC-related purchases. The bit with the K-x last year made me a little wary of them for other kinds of products.
