K10D - Pentax Purgagory?

Well, I don't know about you other K10D owners who purchased your cameras during the hype of the forthcoming K20D, but now that it's here and seeing the first images as proof is in the pudding so to speak, are you feeling buyers remorse? Can we maintain any self respect at all with our new big brother? I guess I still feel I have real value in my K10D and will get years of enjoyment out of it. When I go professional, I'll get the K40D

Considering I paid less than half the cost of a k20d for the k10d I have no remorse.

No remorse, not even a little.
Had the K20 arrived on the scene with 5-6 FPS and state of the art autofocus, well then I'd be cryin' the blues.

I will once I see all these amazing pictures (taken from K20D) that will continue to flood this site and elsewhere. But then I get amazed just seeing some K10D's photos. Except for mine

No remorse, but I certainly would be happy to gain an extra two stops of ISO!

Still... I'm going to skip the k20d and go for 1 or 2 generations after it. K10D does absolutely everything I need.

Having just upgraded from the K100D (not K10) to K20D, I find that a lot of the things I'm loving exist on the K10D - so the "K10D-ness" of the K20 is what I'm liking as much as anything. So, if you just bought a K10D, you should be happy with a great camera (until the K30 appears

The K20D is an incredible upgrade for a K100D user like me, but K10D is a great place to stay for another couple years also, it's simply a great performer.

I am perfectly happy with my K10D. The upgrades on the K20D are not things I would use enough to make me sweat it out.

Live view? I have the instant review turned OFF. What would I use live view for?

21 @ 1.6 MP? I don't even use the continuous drive mode I have now.

14.6 Mp? I can get a decent 20x30 inch print out of my 10.2 Mp.

Low noise at high ISO? I shot Tri-X and pushed it to 3200. There is NO noise at 1600. <G>

Since my wife decided that the K10D was hers, and if I thought that I needed a DSLR, I'd better buy myself one, I've been struggling with the K10-K20 question. I'm really not sure what the extra money for the K20 will do for me. Maybe if I procrastinate long enough the phantom K1 will appear.

Nope, no regrets at all. $800 gets you a lot of glass; for instance, a Voigtlander 125mm macro.

Hi rormeister, No regrets at all, I got mine seven days before the release of the K20. With the kind of photography I'm interested in ultra fast auto focus and high FPS are not important and I find the 10.2 megapixels quite adequate. Also with the difference in price over here I was able to get the SMC DFA 100mm F2.8 Macro lens with the money I saved. Also with film cameras I never used more than 200 ASA film so high ISO is not really an issue. I'm not saying these things might not become inportant as I develop my skills but for now the K10D is all I could ask for, maybe the K30D would be different!!! anyway to answer your question I am very happy with my K10D and have no regrets.

I have k100 Super and I dont even have any remorse... Due to price restrictions of the both the k10 and the K20..

Plus my super does everything I want and in ready for in camera. The old addage of walking before you run holds true in many things.. I probably wont be ready for an ungrade atleast until the next model comes out... lol

Besides I would rather put my money into lens then into bodies.... Just my personal choice I guess.

Totally with Kim on this one. K100D Super is the complete bargain camera of all time. I chose it over the K10D and nothing I see in the K20D would want to make me change my mind.

I've since added a camera bag, tripod, card reader, two battery sets, charger, several GB of memory, remote control, screen protector, blower and three-year accident protection. Even with two new primo Pentax lenses on the shopping list I'll still have 300 euros to spend before coming up to cost of the K20D body alone.

Colour me happy!

That makes 2 of us. Along with the 17-70 I just got, I'm a pretty happy camper.

Perhaps when the K30 or K40...or even K50 comes out, I'll consider getting a new body.

I think you've answered your own question. If you want to save more money, then check out the Marketplace for gently used ones. Most of them are from people who have just gotten their K20s and don't need another body lying around. Most of them seem to be going for $525-575. If, by chance, your phantom K1 does appear, then you'll have less in the K10 than you would the K20. At that rate, if the fabled K1 does have the built-in grip, then it might be worth it to keep the k10 as your second smaller body whenever you don't want to carry around the K1.

I'd be surprised if the K1 doesn't eventually make an appearance, though by some of the stuff I've read. It sounds like Pentax is positioning itself to better compete with the big 2, which will be a good thing.
