I think you've answered your own question. If you want to save more money, then check out the Marketplace for gently used ones. Most of them are from people who have just gotten their K20s and don't need another body lying around. Most of them seem to be going for $525-575. If, by chance, your phantom K1 does appear, then you'll have less in the K10 than you would the K20. At that rate, if the fabled K1 does have the built-in grip, then it might be worth it to keep the k10 as your second smaller body whenever you don't want to carry around the K1.
I'd be surprised if the K1 doesn't eventually make an appearance, though by some of the stuff I've read. It sounds like Pentax is positioning itself to better compete with the big 2, which will be a good thing.
