I agree with this. I'm rather new with 18-135WR yet as I have had it about one week and I have shot around 300 shots with it but the center sharpness is exceptional for a zoom with this big zoom range IMO. About 18~70mm it may well rival primes in center sharpness and contrast at ~F5.6. Not many zooms have caused "wow" effect but this did with it's center sharpness.

I was "scared off" buying this lens before because of bad ratings in reviews. Now finally I have decided not to give too much weight on web reviews. Best is to try yourself and see if it suits you. I think this has become another underrated lens because of bad early reviews. And I'm also starting to believe there is some "Pentax bias" around because of some bad reviews
I was also skeptical because of early reviews of the DA18-135WR and the lens blew me away. After using the lens awhile I realized that I was not using my DFA100WR much because the 18-135 did such a good job, the 100 became somewhat redundant. I really didn't do much macro work and used it primarily as a telephoto, . So I sold it to build funds for a DA*300, not there yet, but that would be my two lens kit.

If I was allowed to trade in my current gear for something I'd get a * zoom with a wide range. I wouldn't even be overly fussy as to which one.

If I was forced to choose among what I have, probably the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 so I could trade it towards getting a * lens.

If that was still considered cheating I'd probably just keep my M-50mm f/1.4 and curse my cheap LBA'd self.

I like the idea of having a camera with only one lens. That's called minimalism. I recently started with digital photography and I bought a K5 II with a 'smc FA 43mm F1.9 Limited' based on that principle.

I have that lens, definitely a lens to keep!

Of what I have, it would be a tossup between that and the 10-20. If I was permanently stuck in UWAland I'd probably grow tired of UWA shots in short order.

The 50's a hell of a lot less expensive, but it also has a lot more versatility.

I'd probably go for the my FA31, and then I'd try to build a bellows for it. Not sure that would work too well in practice though

I have thought about this for a while, and am having a difficult time deciding. From my existing kit, I think I would select the Pentax-F 35-70. I think mine is a good copy and consistently does its job well. There are better lenses for special purposes, but it's got a good range, focuses smartly, and never fails me. The 50-135 is also a contender, but it's not wide enough for general purpose. Yes, I think I could live with only the 35-70mm. (but I would miss the others...especially the Takumars).

I'm going to be the weird one, then. Sigma 70-300 - for it Macro setting. It's a pretty average lens, but for walking around it makes things interesting.

An awesome FF 24/2 which is sharp wide open corner to corner. Tell me where when you found one.

I would probably be with you on the 31mm there.....or possibly the 77mm.
