If you could only have 1 lens...

If you could only have 1 lens in your kit, regardless of brand or price, what would it be?

Id probably go for the Pentax DA* 16-50 given it could be used as a landscape and portrait lens and is weather sealed. Then again, a great prime is hard to pass up given it can do the same eg i love my Sigma 24mm for both landscapes and portraits.

What about you?

EDIT: Perhaps 1 prime and 1 zoom would be a better question. My answers are still the same. Sigma 24mm F2.8 and Pentax DA* 16-50

If I could have only one lens I would go crazy But IF, then it would be maybe Nikon 24-70mm/2.8G with D800 to get as much cropping potential as I could get. And then I guess I would have also D7100 to make it 36-105mm equivalent lens with some more cropping potential. And maybe Nikon 1 to make it 65-190mm/2.8 and maybe also Q to make it 132-385mm/2.8 lens. Also I would have 1.4x and 2x teleconverters to get some more reach (if these are not counted as lenses). Yes, I know, I may be cheating here but I told you I would go crazy

1 prime: FA31mm f1.8 - a great lens

My Tamron 28-200. It's far from my best lens but it does have the most versatile range and if I can carry only one lens, that's what I'd carry.

A 50mm on a full frame. Not too long, not too wide, sharp, and distortion-free!

To have an empty Pelican case hmmm...

For me a hard choice 15mm or 50mm, but at the end of the day it would have to be my SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.2 and as Adam says on FF Pentax DSLR would be grand.

Indeed!

If had to make a choice, would be my DA16-45... love that lens, it has usurped my trusty F35-70 as the go-to.
