Well, I have no experience with entry level zooms other than 18-55 kit lens. If you don't mind the MF too much and also the lack of flexibility in focal range the old primes are at least a match if not better in some respects for far less money. More of a specialised lens if you prefer and when one can master the strenghts and weaknesses some beautiful pictures can emerge. My appeal to them was purelly from the "speed" aspect. I have to explore more the 2/35 Tak and if Pentax will come out with a cheaper K1000D it will be my "kit" lens on that camera.

I have a few MF primes from my K1000 days. Good lenses, but the nature of the digital sensor position drastically changes the effective focal lengths. Even the 50mm becomes too long for me to enjoy in home. I'm gonna sell/trade my K1000, lenses, and the few AFs I've collected and get one or two good primes.

Hi again, TourDeForce!

Yes the FLM of 1,5 from the current Pentax DSLR is as much as a problem for wide range as is a benefit for tele range. From certain standpoints most of the old lenses cannot be a match to modern counterparts. It is very nice to be able to buy for some tens of dollars a specialized lens (very good at a specific task). For myself I can say that I am waiting for my copy of 16-50 DA* and to see some tests for the new DA 35 Lim Macro. Maybe I will buy the latter to and compare it head to head with my Tak 35mm f2. This should be fun!
