A shot with my *ist DS. Bought it used but when I checked the shutter count it read only 5k. Hopefully it really lasts long because I'm enjoying the pics.

Ha! I well remember learning of the release of the *istD.

Browsing a magazine rack, such were larger and more numerous at the time, I noticed a photography magazine covering the then new *istD. Soon found myself quickly thumbing through the mag. Awesome.... that *istD was just so d*mned cool. Into the cart the mag went. Later that evening with the dust of the day settling the opportunity to learn more of the magical *istD was at hand. Yeah!

Moments after beginning the article I discovered two very unpleasant facts regarding the *istD. One being the MSRP of 1799.95USD. The second being that I had just pissed away four/five bucks on a magazine covering a bad-ass digital camera that I just simply could not afford. Such is life. The upside being that sticker shock had me rediscovering my still fairly new little used Zenit 122. Which led to some some fun with film. No regrets.

Now over a decade later the dust of today is settling and find myself browsing your posts. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. I'm half tempted to track down a *istD for kicks.

Cheers :-)

You should, they cost about 1/10th(or less) of the original price now!

So how many have bad (relatively speaking) sensors???
I'm on my second one due to hundreds of hot pixels and no mapping function...........

I never see my hot pixels, when I load my RAW images into Lightroom, they all magically disappear...
If I loaded some JPGs, there would probably be hundreds!

I've had an *istD for 4 yrs now & recently acquired another. My first one only has a few hot pixels but the "new" one has hundreds. I got the camera for a really good price, so I can live with them. I think it will be my "bright sunny day" camera - here's a jpeg from last weekend where they are nearly invisible (xposted from POTW):
