teleconverter

I saw a discussion on teleconverter and they were talking about two different models. What is the difference between the Kenko 1.5 and the Tamron 1.4? The kenko is 30.00 more and it gives that .1 more but is that it, am I better with the 1.4 because I won't lose the
f stops.

You will lose 1 fstop with either TC. I don't own either, but both have gotten fairly good comments over on dpr. The Kenko 1.5 has some sort of circuitry that is supposed to help the AF on digital cameras. IIRC, it acutually works. You might want to try a search over at digital photography review. I have personally been thinking of getting the Kenko 1.5.

I have the Tamron 1.4 for my K100D and I like it well enough, but I don't know the answer to your question, as I've never used the alternative. My sense is that the converter causes auto-focus to work a little more slowly. I took some shots yesterday and switched back and forth between manual and auto-focus.

they are identical in very respect.. apart from the names.. buy the cheapest one.. the 1.4 is the same as the 1.5 factor which one is nearer the truth i dont know..

by identical i mean the same.. its just badging.. and it seems pricing..

I recently acquired a Promaster Spectrum 7, 1.7X automatic Teleconverter from a local used camera store in Louisville, KY. So far I am very pleased with the results from this Teleconverter when used with my Pentas iDS and a Tamrom 18 - 200 XR Macro Zoom Lens. I am including a picture I took today with this combination of setting, (automatic), ISO 800, 1/500 second speed, zoom 108mm, 1.5 digital & 1.7 teleconverter equal total zoom of approximately 275mm.

the converter is killing the contrast/colour a little too much.. u need to either boost it in the camera or with post processing.. the detail is still there so it will pull back in..

i know its not the lens cos i have one.. on its own its quite colourfull.. nothing wrong with the sharpness thow..

I have the Tamron 1.4x TC and used it mostly with my FA 50mm F1.4.
It becomes 70mm and F2 (DOF stays the same thou).

The results are not bad at all yet I did not do any scientific test. I heard it works best on primes of at least 50mm.
