Lots of sky and/or reflected sky (i.e. sea/rivers) in the image and you need +ve EC, the Pentax shot has -0.3EV, so it's no big surprise it's a stop underexposed.

yep, Audiobomber did a good job correcting your photo. Both cameras are excellent and you shouldn't see too much difference at those light levels. The K5 should excel in low light. The DA 18-250 is actually very good when used right. I've used it for several concerts with great success.

boriscleto - of those, I would say that the 28-75 is the most versatile.

polur101 - DA 18-135mm and/or the DA 55-300mm would work too. You are covering a lot of ground with your request. I traveled to Italy with my KX, DA 18-250, DA 12-24mm and that covered everything.

Of course the 28-75 is the most versatile, but the OP wanted to know how to match the quality of the EF 50/1.4. The OP could buy the 35/2.4 & 50/1.8 for the same price of the 28-75.

That would not have covered my trip to Paris. I needed my fast FA 35mm f/2 for museums.

True but I've heard that the 28-75 is sharp too. I agree that the primes are great but my concern is that they are close in focal length. Do you think it would be a little redundant? Just asking...

Yeah we didn't hit many museums. A few but not many. Next time I would take my DA* 16-50mm and DA 12-24mm for the reasons you suggested.

It would be better if Pentax made a DA 28/2.8, but they don't. That's why I pair my FA 50/1.7 with the A 28/2.8 & A 135/2.8. The F/FA 28s are overpriced in the current market IMO.

At f/3.5 it isn't the fastest glass, but I love my Pentax F35-70. It is sharp, fast focusing and the normal to near telephoto has been perfect for family events. The close focus capabilities (the lens barrel says 'macro' but I have a different definition of what that means) comes in handy too. Best of all, the price is a steal.

I had only one complaint about this lens. It doesn't come with a reverse storage bayonet mount hood. However, a 49mm Matin camera lens hood adds a ring to the thread mount along to create a reversible bayonet mount hood.

To cover that 28mm range Sigma has a 28mm f1.8 macro and a couple 30mm faster lenses. Good lenses, too, though not small.

And it costs $450. I'm talking about a $200 lens like the DA 35/2.4 or DA 50/1.8. To complete the low end DA range Pentax needs a 28/2.8 or 3.5, a 85/2 and a 135/2.8 or 3.5.

I can't argue against the DA35mm - that's one I've thought about myself, but the 28mm macro fits my requirements - and I picked it up used for a shade over $300. I can't see Pentax releasing a 28 or 24mm inexpensive lens with the 35. Maybe a plasticy version of the 21mm makes more sense...

And if they released a inexpensive version of an 85mm f2, that would be interesting to say the least. Right now, I'll keep using my FA100 macro for that range, though it's a bit inconvenient sometimes as a general lens.
