DSLR Decision

Making a DSLR decision is difficult most would look only at the two bigger brand names. Admittedly I too also looked too.
I'm not one to to go with hyped up brands.though. Remembering my film roots with a Pentax Super ME.

My decision is being based on cost (what fits my budget), features, handling quality of pictures and I will use the camera for. When factoring all this in the decision obvious choice would be Pentax now the task ahead which model K5 or K30.Decisions decisions but with the this great forum and posts that should not be too hard maybe.

The K-5 and K-30 are really similar. The K-30 has faster live view and focus peaking, while the K-5 has slightly better dynamic range if you shoot in RAW. If you're looking to get your first DSLR, I'd say the K-30 would be a good choice.

It really basically comes down to body shape and price. The sensors are very similar (better dynamic range on K5?). Both are weather sealed. However with the K-5 you get the LCD on the top of the camera (some prefer this over seeing all the info on the rear LCD screen). The K-5 also has a grip attachment.

The K-30 though has focus peaking (incredibly useful for manual focus lenses) and more options for video recording (doesn't have an external mic input though).

Overall they are very similar, so get the K30 if you're more into manual lenses and video. Otherwise I would go for the K-5 for better controls and the top LCD.
