PENTAX DSLR-SIGMA LENS from PENTAX SLR

Hi guys,

I am the owner of Pentax SLR MZ-50 and I use two following Sigma lensen with it; 28-80 f3.5-5.6macro and 100-300 f4.5-6.7UC. I would like to buy now digital Pentax K-30 or K5. Does anyone know if these two lenses could be use in any digital pentax body? I went to the store to check it out but here where I live they don't sell any pentax camera Thanks for any help!

They will probably work. Only reason why they wouldn't is that Sigma usually reverse-engineer the camera-to-lens protocols instead of licensing it from camera makers. I know some sigma-f-mount owners have had problems when upgrading Nikon cameras, but I've never heard of it happening on Pentax cameras. That said, you might want to try the automatic features like AF and the sharing of focal length/aperture ranges on a digital Pentax before you buy one.

Lenses with screw-drive AF do not communicate much with the body.

I don't see why they wouldn't work with a new digital body.

I tried all sorts of old lenses on my K100D -- including old Sigma lenses -- and never had an issue with any.

These lenses:
Sigma 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 Macro Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Sigma 100-300mm F4.5-6.7 DL Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Note that Sigma has made several designs in those focal lengths over the years so those might not be the exact model but check the lens database here: Pentax Lenses by Sigma, Tamron, Zeiss, and more - Reviews and Specification Database - Pentax Lens Review Database

Both of those lenses should work, no reason why not. However, you might be better off buying the new camera with at least one new lens, either the 18-55 or the 18-135. If you have the budget the 2 lens kit with 18-55 and 55-300 is an excellent combination and I think an upgrade in image quality over your current lenses.

Do note that on APS-C digital your 28-80 is no longer a wide angle, you need to get to around 18mm to get the same look.

I have two MZ50s gathering dust in my cupboard and I had those two lenses. they worked perfectly on my *ist DS, K100d, K10d and K20d till I obtained better lenses. the 28-80 wont be wide enough for you it`s effectively a 42- 120 with the crop factor.
