Time to upgrade... K-7 or K-01?

I have been using my K10D for the past 5 years along with (primarily) two lenses a SMC Pentax-DA 2.4 35mm and the kit 18-55mm. By and large I have been very happy with this set up. I am a strictly amateur, finding myself taking mostly taking pictures of my kids and family events. The one thing that I lack though, is the ability to take videos with my camera. There are many times that I find myself using my cheap point and shoot because it can take videos, even though the quality is poor, but at least I can do video when I want to. So I have decided to buy a new Pentax camera that will take video as well as photos. The catch is I only have US$350 to spent, so that seems to limit me to either a used K-7 or a used K-01. Does anyone have any thoughts on which would be a better choice?

Sell your K10D and buy a K-30 or K-50. Better still camera than either, and just as good at video as the K-01. Net cost will be in your ballpark.

What he said. The K-30 is an upgrade over the K-7 in every regard, with the exception of the lack of a battery grip option and fewer buttons. The K-01 offers equal image quality as the K-30 (and both are superior in IQ relative to the K-7) but the K-01 doesn't have a viewfinder, and has so few buttons it's really not a good substitute to a dslr.

Get the K-30.

If you have only 1 digital camera get the K30. The K01 is Ok for a second camera or for anyone who does not like SLRs

Whichever later Pentax you go for, don't rush to get rid of the K10D. Many people feel the CCD sensor in it has a quality that you don't get in later CMOS sensors (K20D onwards).

I would suggest holding off for a little bit (what's a few more months in the scheme of things) and waiting for a used K5 at a good price. The difference between the K5 and K7 is night and day, well worth the wait (and perhaps little bit extra). The K01 is nice, but before you buy it spend some time with it to see if it is really what you're looking for - there are some big differences over a traditional DSLR.

On a final note, I wouldn't recommend selling/trading/parting with your K10D - it's always nice to have a second body in case one has to go in for service.

I'd also hang onto the K10.
I still have mine along with a K-5 and I wouldn't want to part with it.

Out of your choices, I'd go with a K-01.
For your needs, the K-01 should fit the bil. And the video option.
