Pentax Program Plus. Pentax-A 135mm 1:2.8/50mm 1.7

This camera and lens set has been in my fathers possession for years. Does anyone have an idea of what each on of these items is worth mint? I was surprised about how many different 135mm there are.

Rough guide: the 135mm 2.8, while a beautiful lens, even in mint condition, won't go for more than $200, because the 135mm 2.5 was even better, and thus is still the more desirable item.

The 50mm 1.7 will go for around $70 if mint and an M, ie: SMC-M or around $90 if it's an A, ie: SMC-A. Which is crap, because the SMC-M is far nicer to use, and is of higher quality all round... go figure?

BTW, these are ebay prices that a seller with a very good reputation for honesty would get. You'd need to adjust your expectations if that isn't the case with you.

I paid $75+shipping for my Super Program in very nice condition from Henry's a few months ago.
After checking our own lens database and over at Stan's Stan's Pentax Photography I personally wouldn't pay anything close to $200 for the A-135/2.8.
I agree with 123 about the dif between the M50/1.7 and the A50/1.7. I have both and I spent more on the A version, $45 for the M and $65 for the A. I think the main reason the A commands a bit higher price is the fact you can meter with the digital cameras without the green button and to me, because I don't have a problem with the green button at all, the big advantage of the A-series is Lightroom and other programs see and report what aperture was used.

and just a reminder... some members of this site may have a hissy if you improperly label your item as mint.

"Mint condition is often used to describe a collectible item such as a model figure, doll, or toy that has never been removed from its box"

Pentax-A SMC 135/2.8 ......... Minty - eBay (item 270219647063 end time Apr-12-08 16:50:42 PDT)

I had no idea the 135 would be even close to 200. I saw this on ebay and was shocked. I wont use mint anymore...what is a fair price to ask for the 3 or just the 135? Im pretty oblivious to manual focus lens.

I think you'd be selling yourself short if sell the 135/2.8 for aything less than $200-250. There's one completed auction in the UK that sold for $240. It seems to be a pretty rare lens as far as eBay is concerned.

The A50/1.7 is one of the better 50mm lenses ever made (regardless of manufacturer), but there's an abundance of them so don't expect to get more than $80 for one in good condition. I've seen them sell as high as $100 and as low as $50.

I would say $385 is a too high, even for a lens in true mint condition like this one seems to be. I'd say, take some good pictures of it, put it on eBay with a correct title, and wait to see what it goes for.

It actually annoys me a lot. If you look up "mint" in the dictionary you will not find "object that has been used extensively for over a decade but is still in OK shape". However, that is what people seem to think it means!

Wow, I need to sell my A-135 2.8. I think I paid about $60 for my copy at a camera show 2 years ago. Mine's not "minty" but I've gotten some great shots with it.
