As I read this through, my old wife is downloading great shots from my old K20D. Like you, I love both the camera and the wife. But for some reason it's easier to hit the wrong button on the latter. Maybe it's easier because the former came with a manual; never have figured out all the buttons on the wife.

Someone said they were one of the older ones here at age 36, sorry but I will be 66 in Aug. that is old to me.
I have 2 K10D's both with grips and I see no need to upgrade at this point. I will agree with one poster that stated the K10D will reside among a select few, as it was a landmark camera.
I only shoot with low ISO's, and that CCD sensor just cannot be beat IMHO. In case you cannot tell, I LOVE MY K10D's.
I also still use K1000's and PZ-1's. I love me some Pentax.

It's always been two years. Gordon Moore, a co-founder of Intel, wrote a paper in 1965 in which he noted that transistor count had doubled every year from 1958 to 1965 and he expected it to continue for at least another 10 years. In 1975 he altered the projection to every 2 years. An Intel executive named David House predicted a doubling of chip performance every 18 months and a lot of people have confused this prediction with Moore's.
Since AMD is not hot on Intel's heels like in the past Intel is delaying it's 14 nanometer process until 2015 instead of 2014. Intel 22 nanometer Ivy Bridge Core i7 and i5 processors came out in April 2012 and AMD will not have 22 nanometer processors anytime soon.

I've been using my K20D since 2008, until I got my K-01 about a month ago. It might be missing a viewfinder and have more annoying autofocus, but holy crap it is 100000x better in low light and at high ISO.

So by today's camera standards, yes. The K10D is definitely old, as is the K20D. I love its design, though. Glad Pentax brought it back with the K50/K500. Hopefully the new APSC camera will follow a similar design?

Last camera I shot with was a 1961 H1a. More often I use a 1960 Leica M3. If I want to use "old" it's my 1936 Leica "Standard" with 50mm f3.5 Elmar.

Yep, I'm an old guy at an anime con! Of course I'm normally selling stuff in the dealer room at them. I've also picked up quite a following because of them.

'old' is a relative term that depends entirely on the rate of change. The biggest change measure for most photographers is image quality. Film cameras aged slowly because the image quality was affected more by the film stock than the cameras or lenses. Come on, we are still drooling over the IQ of glass that is 30+ years old.
So true. The only real advantage today's lens offerings have over older gear is autofocus.

In the digital photography world, IQ has changed both dramatically and quickly over the past 15 years. Therefore our cameras have been deemed to be 'old' much faster. Sure we like additional features - but the biggest prompt to upgrade is better IQ.
This statement best describes the argument for spending the money on the latest K-Whatever, and moving on from the K-Yesterday.

Great comment Jim!

How Old Is "Old"?
Speaking of camera technology ...

... when the incremental improvement in technology fundamentally improves or extends what I can do with a camera.

So for me the improvement in ISO performance alone between the K20 and the K5 has rendered the K20 "old".

And if the next new pentax offering gives me the same comparable improvement over the K5 the K5, in turn, will become "old".

There is no correct option for me.
I sold my K10D (loved it, but too slow for concert work) but I want it back so I can nobble my SDM lenses back to screw drive.

Very good point.

Now if we could just get a reasonable trade in for our "old" cameras.

*sigh*

I suppose that there should have been a poll to determine the poll choices.
