ISO in manual mode

Am I correct in assuming that there is no AutoISO in manual mode? When I go to ISO from the function menu, AUTO appears in green at the top of the display, but when scrolling through the ISOs it skips that option.

In manual mode, its just that....manual. You can change it on the fly by holding the 'ok' button and rotating the front e-dial.

That is correct, the K10D does not feature Auto-ISO in M mode.

However, the TAv mode may be used to much the same effect as M+Auto-ISO.

Auto ISO

I don't mean to be sarcastic, but if it had auto ISO, it wouldn't be manual mode, would it?

The whole point of manual mode is that you can set things however you wish. You can deliberately over or underexpose for dramatic effect. If the camera adjusted the ISO, it would not be possible to over/under expose.

Thanks everyone. I couldn't find a reference to it in the manual. The reason I ask is because the AUTO icon is displayed even though the option is not available. Thanks for the tip about the OK button. That is what I really needed!!

Yes, the OK button seems to be an undocumented feature. I myself only learned about it last Sunday

I believe that's because it was part of a firmware update.

Yes, that became available with firmware 1.10, and it was clearly mentioned in the update's documentation: PENTAX DIGITAL CAMERA INFORMATION PAPER and PENTAX DIGITAL CAMERA INFORMATION PAPER

Except Nikon has AutoISO in Manual Mode. Of course it's no longer "manual" at that point. Pentax was smart to include TAv mode, which is essentially the same thing (and less confusing to have anything "Auto" in Manual)

I know you mean this in fun, but for those who are trying to figure things out for real, the mode dial is "exposure modes" where as the front switch is "focus modes"

But if you really want to push the limit on auto functions, just what the H*** does the grean button do in manual, suprise it sets the exposure to the Automatic settings, maybe it should have just turned on the light meter, oops sorry that is already on

I have read the K10D and the K100D manuals reasonably thoroughly, and did the firmware upgrade and was aware of the documentation, but for some unknown reason (probably because it was not in one of the manuals) had not read and understood the documentation until a couple of weeks ago as a result of a post here.

Now if I could only remember what I read.....
