Recommend upgrade over k20D

The K20D has served me well, but I think it is time for an upgrade. I have not been really keeping up with the recently released models. I saw many believe the K30 is a better deal than the K50 now. I am not too interested in video features, as I have been using my k-01 for that. Should I also look at the entry-level DSLR offerings?

The K20 was the flagship camera for it's time and you want another in that category. A used K5 would be a very good upgrade and I believe a K5II would be even better. I upgraded from the K20 to K5 several years ago and realized that the K5 was what I was waiting for. I still use my k20 but I've begun to see its shortcomings. The K30 while good is not top of the line nor is the K50. YMMV

You might still be able to pickup the K-30, with the WR kit lens, for 499, from Hunt's. The K-30 is practically the same camera, so why not save some cash? The K-30 does have some advantages over the K-5 series(K-5 has advantages too). Video is improved and Focus peaking is available, on the K-30. The K-30 also has two dials, just like a pro body.

IMO, get a K-5 if you already have a K-01.

Any recent body except for K7 would be an upgrade. The K30 is a sleeper of a good deal but if $ are not too limiting, I would go for the K5IIs, the lack of AA filter is great for sharpness.

I think a K-5/K-5ii would be closer to your K20D in capability and design. On the other hand, the K-30 and K-01 are sisters under the skin, with very simlar performance and menus. If a K-01 with a viewfinder (and grip, twin wheels, etc.) would meet your needs, then the K-30 might do. The K-30 has the entry-level "loud" shutter, as opposed to the high-end "silky" shutter, as well as the K-r's battery setup.

Recommend a K-5, but which version I can't say.
I have the original K-5 and it is a solid camera.
Still love the feel of my K10 though. The perfect sized camera.
