Pentax Remote Control F w/ K-5ii

Morning all. So I'm trying my remote with my K-5ii. I'm having an issue with the autofocus system while using the remote.

According to the manual, when I navigate to Menu-->C-->18. AF with Remote Control, and set to "ON," when I press the remote's trigger, the autofocus should operate, then the shutter should be triggered. But this is not what's happening: When I press the remote, the shutter triggers without the AF system operating. I don't think I'm using it wrong, but why isn't the AF working with the remote.

I'm using a Pentax Remote Control F if that makes a difference.

Your camera and/or lens may be set to manual focus.

No, it's not that. I'm using a DA 18-135 and DA 40 ltd. Neither has a manual switch and the focus switch on the camera is set to AF.S.

Ok, I'm still having this issue with my remote. It won't activate the autofocus system. Is this remote no longer compatible? Any ideas? Could the battery be weak? I'm going to try this on my K200D tomorrow and see if it works there.

Page 129 of the (english) user manual mentions that it does not work in live view; any chance that that is the case?

Nope, not using Live View. It's freakin' bizarre. Also, there is no half-button push, like the shutter, so I can't simply press it half-way and wait for the autofocus to engage.

It's inconvenient but you can do the half-button push on the camera (c-18 might have to be set to off).

ZOMG!!! I finally figured it out. You can see hold old this thread is, 6 months. Here goes:

Custom 3.15. AF.S Setting--> 1. Focus Priority.

I had this set to Release-Priority, meaning "Shutter can be released even if subject is not in focus." This may also explain why I was getting a few oof shots here and there. Finally, 6 months and several headaches later, glad to get this sorted out.
