Battery in grip

I have a BOWERS battery grip for the K-7 for about a year now. All the functions of the grip work fine, but recently I was running out of power faster than I thought I should be, so I checked the set up and saw that the grip battery is crossed. (see attached pic)

Attachment 183606

I put in a new fully charged (PENTAX) battery, same thing. I swap the cartridge out to the one with charged AA eneloops, same thing.
Yep, cleaned the tips of the sprung contacts and the camera docking points, still the same.
Took the battery out of the camera and fitted the grip only with the battery, nothing - won't fire up (camera setting is on auto select)
As I say, all the functions of the grip work fine it just doesn't seem to be receiving any power from it..

Anyone else had this happen?

Make sure the grip/body contacts are clean and not damaged and functioning properly, by which I mean that the contacts in the grip are sprung loaded and should all be standing at the same height. Check one (or more) isn't depressed into the grip.

Are you only seeing Auto Select?

Menu Tool | 3 | Select Battery |
Use the four way controller Up or Down to select Auto, the internal battery, or the battery in the grip. In the latter case you can also select the battery type.
See page 270/271 of your manual (k-7.pdf).

Of course, it's wrong when one or more contacts are depressed into the grip. However, not all the contact pins on the D-BG4 are on the same height by design. There are 3 pins that are a bit thicker (I guess for power) that are higher. One thin pin is also lower than the rest. This is probably a security measure in case the grip is mounted when the camera is on (not recommended), to ensure power and signal lines are connected in a correct order.

Hadn't noticed that before.
