Noticed while setting up the system that there is a setting for muting or silencing the shutter / mirror action.

Suppose that might be a good thing to use when doing wildlife so as not to spook your subject.

I like the sound though, as well as the little quiver of "recoil" the unit makes when the shutter is tripped. It makes it feel like a "real" camera!
how much did you pay for the refurbished item?

K-50 Amazon Buy

Now that I look at the label on the box it says it was "New", and it certainly looks new.

Pentax K-50 16MP Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD - Body Only (Black)
Sold by: Amazon.com LLC
$290.46

And the lens I bought for it:

Pentax 21870 DA 50-200mm F/4-5.6 AL Weather Resistant Lens (Discontinued by Manufacturer)
Sold by: 19th Hole Deals
$99.99

This K-50 cost about $50 more than my K-100D did a couple of years ago.

August 2013:

Pentax K100D Super 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Shake Reduction (Body Only)
Sold by: iGet it FAST
$234.99

That one was used but in good condition.

Page 100 of the K-50 Users Manual.

Menu > Rec Mode > [3] V> Slow Shutter Speed NR.

3 choices; ^V to select Auto, On, or Off.

> Menu to exit.

I haven't tried it so don't know if it works. YMMV.

That isn't to make it quiet, that determines if the camera does some digital image noise reduction on images where the shutter speed is very low.

Here is an old thread on the subject:

I was digging through my Lightroom catalog for some reason and stumbled upon this. That feeling when you like the photo and have no recollection it was you that actually took it. K100DS / DA 50-200.

Colour settings when shooting RAW

I have recently bought K100D Super in excellent condition ( 3000 shots ), Panasonic Eneloops have just arrived so during next few days I'm going to take longer walks and take some photos.
I will be shooting RAW. In "Recording menu" in submenu "Colour Tone" I have a choice between what seems like a "Bright Tone" and a "Natural Tone".
Which option do you guys choose? Does it influence RAW files or is it just intended for JPEG shooting?

I don't think it applies to RAW, only to JPEG.

While we're here...

That's right, it only applies to jpegs. RAW shots often need some post processing. They usually look a bit dull straight from the camera but contain more information than a jpeg so have the potential to look better with a bit of tweaking, for example they contain more shadow and highlight data.

I must say the quality of the photographs after upload is disgusting... ((

Could you recommend some upload settings, procedures, sharpening for better result after uploading?

Post the pictures to an outside account site like Flickr and then link with bbcode.

Nice shots of some very calm water! Good to see this thread waking up a bit. I handed my K100D down to my wife as her first Pentax DSLR. She's moved up to a K-7, so I got my beloved K100D back A couple recent shots:

The 100DS was my first DSLR, back when the "experts" were suggesting that 6mp was always going to be enough. I found that when cropping the images later that it was not quite. Anyway, a few taken back in 2008 when it supplanted the point and shoot Konica Minolta my father had loaned me. I still have it, really should get it out this year and use it again. Images taken with kit 18-55mm.
(I put my Canon T90 away after I bought my first computer to enable seeing the images on a larger screen in 2009 but used them in tandem up till then).
