Sounds like the perfect set up for the trip!

Was out playing with a K-50 in a large red colored store the other day. Fired that baby and 10 people turned around! It's louder than a K100D!! The thwackomatic has been reincarnated!!! At least the shutter anyway! Holy cow! After my wife jumped, she declared that monster was never welcome in our home! But she still likes the K100, go figure.
I own a k100d, a k100d Super, and a k50. The k50 is much much less loud and clunky sounding. No comparison, I wonder if the one you tested was defective or if the setting was just quiet.

I agree. It's hard to imagine louder camera than K100D (in Pentax line-up, of course). And this mirror really causes camera to jump up in your hands!

But this can't spoil the party, I'm still fan of that little plastic beauty!

One of my favourite shots with K100Ds:

Agree - really like this one! ...and the K100D loud shutter "problem" is overrated, imo - never bothered me.

Agreed. "Loud" is a relative term ... never was that big of a deal for me concerning my K110D.

You never popped off a few rounds during a prayer at church! Got the evil eye for that!

I wonder if a good underwater housing would solve the church issue. Lol.

I'm ready to upgrade my K100D .. this thread has made me so proud of it! Amazing camera, but its just time..

I've spent weeks trying to figure out what to replace it with, and I just can't decide. K50 (amazing bargain!)? K5-IIs (bang/buck!)? K-S2 (NEW stuff!)? No matter which I lean towards, I feel sad that I'll be retiring the K100D.

I have a k50 and a k100d and a k100d super. I use my super as a back up camera.

The K-5 upgrade for me was a good one. Similar size and weight. Top lcd, and mode dial on left side made it easy to acclimate the new camera. The K100D is easier to use with m-series lenses(for me), so it is staying for sure! Besides, always good to have two! Or three, or four.
