Adjust the SR strenght in K10D

Hi all,

I found a feature in K10D - FW - ver.1.10, that allows you to adjust the strenght of the SR.

This feauture is only available when in Debug mode and you power on your K10D. All you have to do then is press down arrow and then left or right arrow depenging whether you want to decrease or increase the effect of SR.

I guess no one has discovered this yet as I don't recall anyone mentioning it on this or the other Pentax forum.
Here are the screenshots from my K10D FW ver.1.10.

Have not really tested yet the difference when changing this setting but decided to post it here for my fellow Pentaxians so they know.
Cheers,

Voe

Kind of curious as to why you would want it on anything other than full strength? But thanks for posting this hidden feature.

Firmware 1.30

Thanks for the info. Can you access this feature in version 1.30?

Thanks
Ben

debug mode not available

sadly the debug mode is not available in later releases of software due to the large number of people that a) broadcast the access to this mode, and b) the number of people who get into trouble playing with thngs they should not.

I seriously think more manufacturers should make these modes available to the general populous.

The extra SR adjustment slider isn't there in the K100D debug mode FW 1.20.

Any ideas on how to test the effect of this function "scientifically" ?

Nice!

Just wondering, will strengthening the SR result in a more blurred image? If the cam is on a tripod with SR on, the image is slightly blurred right? Soooo, if the SR is set on a much stronger setting, say a 50mm lens with SR set to say 50mm++, wouldn't that be just like turning SR on if on a tripod? Because a strength of 50 should be used for a 50mm lens (equivalent more or less "like on a tripod"), the excess SR will result in blurred images right? Am I making any sense? Or did I just understand the whole idea wrong?

(Maybe we can ask RH to test this function "scientifically") LOL... I keed, I keed!

My take on this is that SR adjustments have more or less been optimized for the average user, so changing it might not be the wisest thing to do. But, then, sometimes you have to live dangerously!

You can still influence the SR in 1.30 when using non digital lenses of course, by adapting the focal length.
The longer the focus, the more SR is invoked.

speaking of RH... first of all - leave him alone - stop teasing the guy, he has the right to post his opinions and
only the owner of the forum can kick him out from his private property.

then - do you know that there is a hidden feature planted by Pentax in their firmware ? there is a portrait of RH stored in ROM w/ "WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE" across his face... so that faithful Pentaxians can get to that infidel... you know : RH & Pentaxians = Salman Rushdie & Iranians

What lens did you have connected to the Body when you got this?

I remember reading in that K10d book that Yvon wrote something about this appearing when the lens is an older lens or is a non-auto-focus lens or something like that. (book is at home right now so I can't look it up)

He wrote something about this menu popping up or being available based on the type of lens attached to the body.

Manual page 67 mention this process as been automated in the latest firmare by automatically adjusting the focal lenght (what you call strenght) to that of the lense.
K10 manual Page 67 : "If the camera uses a DA, D FA, FA J, FA or F lense, the lens information is automatically acquired when the shake reduction fuction is activated"
K10 manual Page 68 "If a type of lens that does not support automatic acquisition of lense information such as focal length is used, the shake reduction menu appears."
