K10D Data Panel Puzzler

I've looked thru both the manual and the Magic Lantern guide and can't seem to find the answer to this. When I depress the shutter 1/2 way the ISO or shots left display in both the view finder and top LCD panels changes to a single digit (e.g. right now it shows '6').
I've changed exposure modes, flash up and down and scoured the menus to try and find something that makes sense of it but I am now at a loss. What is this number???

IIRC, it is the number of shots remaining that can be stored in the buffer.

It's one of the Custom Menu settings, on P34 of the user manual:

Recordable Image No.
Sets to switch number of recordable images in the LCD panel and viewfinder to number of continuous shooting recordable images when shutter release button is pressed halfway.

I can't tell you what that means exactly, but I have it off, i.e. in the default setting.

Domo Arigato!

Ahhh, I must have changed that setting when I was first dinking around with the menus. I never would have looked there as I was trying to figure out what the hell '6' had to do with EV settings. LOL

And yep, switch to JPEG and it shows 24, RAW DNG == 8, RAW+ == 6. Okay, turned off permanently!

Thank you both
