You write that you can't can't turn the lens to lock into the mount. The lens will not lock into the mount of a genuine Pentax M42 adapter but maybe it should lock into this third party adapter?

You should only consider bying the genuine pentax M42-adapter The knock-off can sometimes be good but you'll never be sure so I'd not take the risk as the knock-off adapter mostly is crap and sometimes can damage the camera or lens mount. The reason that you can't focus to infinity with the one you have now is that it makes the lens protroud (is that the right word? My English isn't the best.).

Correct word, spelling slightly off.

Protrude.

English doesn't really follow much logic though, so it's understandable.

wait on ebay or adorama.
and btw DON'T BUY OFF BRAND ONE. It will hurt both your K-mount and your lens.

I got one off of ebay (thanks for the links). It works great. It looks like it was made for the lens, which is happens to be a very good one (55mm SMC F1.8, $25 on fleabay). I am going to look out for something longer, like a 135, 150 or a 200mm.

Wide open, focus on the bottom right.
