Where to get a properly working M42 adapter?

Hi,

I got a really nice copy of a SMC Takumar F1.8, but I can't find the original pentax adapter, so I got a cheap one:
Amazon.com: Generic M42 Lens to PK pentax Compatible for pentax KM K-M K-7 K-X K2000 K20D Adapter Ring: Camera & Photo

It does not seem to fit. I can't turn the lens to lock into the mount, if I apply more force it will get stuck.
The lens also does not focus beyond around 10 ft. Is there any adapter sold these days that would work properly?

eBay. There's lots--make sure the ad specifically mentions infinity focus. There's a few genuine Pentax ones too, but they tend to get expensive. You may want to post a "wanted" listing here on the marketplace.

it's not only about infinity focus, but also about it being able to turn and lock in the camera mount. I am reading people have lots of trouble with that...

The money you spent on cheap ones are better spent on a genuine one that will work fantastic on your camera, you can always sell it and get your money back, they keep their value nowadays. Will not jam your body, will focus to infinity and will not make your head hurt. Just my opinion. Enjoy your lens.

Hi, tzrenz0, it's not just about the money. They just aren't sold new anywhere at the moment. There are some used ones on ebay for $80, which is a lot more than when they were around new. I would love to pay $40 for a new, original, one if there was one in stock anywhere.

Yeah I saw the adorama and BH, but I don't think these are manufactured anymore, they could be on backorder for an eternity. Anyhow, I got one of a couple ebay ones for $50 (same price as KEH when shipping is included),. I am ok with a couple extra bucks because I got the late production 55mm SMC Tak for $25, which seems to be a pretty good deal...

Oh, the BH has it in stock. I don't know how could I have missed it. I think it was because i looked for adapter B, not K. Oh well.

Buy one from Pentax?

bear in mind that's the Australian site, and therefore in Australian Dollars. (not that there's much difference between AUD and USD these days)
