Pentax K-30

For all of those who purchased a Pentax K-30 before it was discontinued, what are your thoughts on it being discontinued?

The K-50 is virtually identical to the K-30, so I wouldn't consider it discontinued

I'm taking your word for it. I'm getting the K-50 soon.

Higher Number?

Hello J Andre, Welcome to the Forum!
I agree with Adam, it's more like the K-30 was superceded or replaced by the K-50. The only differences I could find on the comparison chart (and they're tiny, overall) is that the K-50 adds one stop of sensitivity to the expanded range (ISO 51200 vs ISO 25600 for the K-30) and accepts a Wi-Fi card in addition to the SD, SDHC and SDXC cards of the K-30. Otherwise, they're virtually identical in performance, specs and features. Somewhat different in appearance, however much that matters!
For a real upgrade, you might wait and see what the user reviews have to say about the K-3. On paper, it looks like a major advance.
JMO,
Ron

I really like the design of the K-30 and had hoped for similar forms in the future. Looking at K3/50/500 lets me assume they will stay with the old established design. But as long as my K-30 makes it's clicks I don't need to worry about that.

All cameras are discontinued eventually. Most people will buy the K3 before it's discontinued too.

I sold a purchased new K-r and a couple lenses, and added a little cash to purchase a lightly used K-30 with 18-135. I wasn't so much displeased with the K-r as much as a wanted a few of the K-30's features. It was a great decision. How do I feel about the K-50? Neutral. Like the above posters have said, there are very few differences and while all of them are nice, they aren't enough to make me switch. The K-50 should have been named the K-30II and the K-500 the K-300. It also would have pulled the entire line into place 3, 30, 300 instead of 3, 50, 500.

For the record, I prefer the K-30 look...gonzo!

you can still get the K-30 from Hunts photo for $500 with the WR lens. I would save the extra 200 or so and get that instead of the K-50... use that $200 for $20 warranty card or even a Rokinon 85mm 1.4 ($250 new in amazon)
the link is in PF in the price watch section.

from what i can tell from the reviews, the K-50 has better video auto-focusing and higher ISO capabilities. Basically , aside from body styling and color choice those are the only differences. I like the K-30 body style over that of the k-50, but im weird.

Oldnoob,

It is funny that you mention it but I happen to find the K-30 also more beautiful than the K-50. In fact it was the sole reason why I got interested in this cool looking camera. Later I found out all the benefits of Pentax over the Nikon 3200 that I was looking at initially.

I think people new to Pentax like the K-30 look more and find it more distinctive for Pentax than K-50 design.
