20 minutes and about 15 miles, Southeast Camera in Raleigh. You can rent a 645Z there. K bodies & lenses in stock. Lots of good used gear of all kinds. Traded one of my AB800's for an Einstein. Locations in Chapel Hill ( where I found my used K3II) and Wilmington. People who know their stuff, good prices, good service. Seamless, film, a real camera store. Will match B&H prices.

My home town is in SW Missouri, right in the middle of the USA - actual population is about 160,000, but the metro service area is probably 2-3 times that. We have only one camera store in town, and they sell only Canon/Nikon, some Sony, maybe some Olympus. No Pentax gear for sale within 100 miles of here, as far as I know.

In the early 1970s, the population was less than 100,000, and there were 2 camera stores in town. Pentax was well represented. I bought my first screw mount Spotmatic, used, in 1970. Put it on layaway and paid it off $20 per week. Over the years I bought 6-7 Pentax film cameras from that store - they knew me by name, and I knew theirs. But they are long gone now.

I have two Nikon stores within reach. Both have used equipment, including some Pentax gear. Gene's Camera in South Bend and in Mishawaka.

We were in Portland in May 2106,
Camera World was an empty store front,
Still had the brand name logos on the inside walls, would like to have gone in stripped off the "Pentax" in foot high letters.

Sad,
I'm in the Seattle metro area, only two major camera stores that I'm aware of,
Glazers in the Lake Union area of Downtown Seattle, Canikon primarily, though they do sell other pro gear and still have some larger format film gear.
Kenmore Camera at the north end of Lake Washington, I was up there a few years ago, and they had a good selection of Pentax in stock, but all at list price. You could at least handle some things that were only pictures on-line to me. They regularly advertise in the Seattle Times, but never Pentax.
I live a ferry ride and a drive away from either of these stores, expensive and time consuming to shop locally. Almost all of my gear has come from B&H, sight unseen. They ship free and no sales tax.

I was in Victoria B.C. about 5 years ago, and found a small store off the beaten path that had a small shelf of Pentax. was not looking to by anything then.

With no visible advertising and no store presence, I'm surprised Pentax sells anything.

Basically the same for me. I've never bothered checking out either, though. I've just grown up buying online, from distributors with amazing return policies.

It is amazing, isn't it?

Well, there are the on-line reviews at numerous sites, the occasional ads and articles in paper magazines, and appearances at the trade shows. I continue to see generally-positive mentions of Pentax in other gear forums. But, maybe it's the brand that sells itself or maybe the established user base is relatively robust.

I bought my most recent lens (HD DA 21) online from a western-Canada dealer, because no local dealer had one in stock (and it's not a highly unusual, exotic lens).

I was in a "London Drugs" a few minutes from me earlier today and they have carried Pentax for years. However I noticed that the "Pentax" cabinet has now been changed to the "Ricoh" cabinet.

Over 100 miles away, which is the distance from my home, Pittsburgh, to Cleveland Ohio. Dodd Camera in Cleveland is awesome. Many Brands, good inventory. Top Notch sales staff. It's a pleasure to make the 2 hour drive up there just to walk around and soak up the goodness.
