I think the beef is not being able to do 30 sec but not able to dial in a set time beyond 2 sec. To get your 30 sec exposure you had to hold the button and time the 30 sec.

You use a TS (tip sleeve) jack and one button. My understanding is that will only trip the shutter, and to get the focusing action a remote made with a TRS (tip ring sleeve or 'stereo') jack and second switch will get that pre focus ability???

For me the shutter action is all I need. For very long exposures, I'm using manual focus.
