If you consider the 93mm filter as a potential limiting factor, 500/93 is ~5.4, that leaves a lot of surface area for the secondary mirror in the middle and still come up with f6.3

How did you know that I shot with a mirror lens in the past. Did I mention that? I am curious. I used the mirror when I lived in Milan, but that was years ago. Do we know each other, have we met or do you know my work. I am curious.

Your recent purchase got me thinking, somebody should re-visit the cat lens idea with an APS sensor in mind. The smaller center mirror, combined with an even slightly larger primary mirror than this one could yield a 500-600mm f5.6 that has a slightly less donuty look. Add SDM and a very high quality mirror... who knows?
