Interesting camera in that pic - so ugly it must be a Sony
Close... it's a KonicaMinolta D7D.

@Ben: I'm interested to know if the f/6,3 is true. From the look of it, I think it's not different from any other 500 mirror, so there you go...

If you consider the 93mm filter as a potential limiting factor, 500/93 is ~5.4, that leaves a lot of surface area for the secondary mirror in the middle and still come up with f6.3

Hi Stephen;

How did you know that I shot with a mirror lens in the past. Did I mention that? I am curious. I used the mirror when I lived in Milan, but that was years ago. Do we know each other, have we met or do you know my work. I am curious.

Ben
Ben,

Yes, and directly indirect at that.

You may (or may not) recall our long emails of our early careers in photography 30 years ago, roughly when you started, and how my photographic career choices were dramatically changed the day Larry Flint of the Hustler Publishing Empire got shot.

You said it was a great story and should be shared on the forum...

Oh how quickly you forget!! (Endless tears pouring from my eyes)

somebody should...

Your recent purchase got me thinking, somebody should re-visit the cat lens idea with an APS sensor in mind. The smaller center mirror, combined with an even slightly larger primary mirror than this one could yield a 500-600mm f5.6 that has a slightly less donuty look. Add SDM and a very high quality mirror... who knows?
