That is definitely the card. Had the same problem with a slow card and reader.

card reader? you mean to read the card on my pc, it is the usb scandisk provided with the SD
thought i don't beleive this has anything to do with the stripes i get

however, i do not think it has to do directly with the card :
after some more observation, i figured that this problem only happens for the first shot i take after turning on the camera
i do a lot of panoramas with hugin (great tool) and it is always (when it happens) the first picture that is affected

i beleive either their is some initialiasing isues that happens occasionly
perhaps it may be due to the weather, it was below 0°C perhaps -10

i was suggested by a friend it might be due to the D-range function which i believe was on
also it is probably a processing error perhaps during the bayer matrix conversion, as it is clearly a vertical sinc with a 2 pixels period.
anyhow, it seems that to avoid the problem one may want to take a first shot to make sure it is fine
note that due to the sinC period, when sampling down the image to show on the LCD screen, you can see the stripse thought at a lower frequency (nyquist effect). so you now if the problem is happening.

some pentax engineer arround reading this might have an idea if there actually is a bug here??

thanks

Your K20D is broken. Return it or get it serviced.

I agree fully. Maybe a bad sensor or trace or power circuit. Whatever it is it really need the camera replaced........ not fixed.....
Apparently it occurres in the Nikon d200 as well.......
Maybe searching the Nikon sites will reveal the cause.
guess I'm a bit surprised in the fact it's in a 20d w/ a CMOS sensor. Leads me to believe it's a problem not related to the sensor but more to do w/ a bad board/ ADC/ power supply....whatever

I´m having the same thing. Zig-zag shaped strips so ugly that I´m almost turning Nikon...
Benjikan´s talk about the card got me thinking... So I formatted my card after two years of use.
My first impression is that the strips are gone or wery reduced.

if it is zig-zag lines and not the vertical banding issue i have
than it might be RF interference
this will happen if you are close to a gsm (cellular) base station, e.g often on building roofs
search for it on the Internet, you,ll find example pictures

So phler2, was your K20D ever fixed? If it was, do you what was causing the problem?

Hi,

actually, i had started an other thread after i had received my k20 back from pentax without any changes to it.

that thread has been quite active on the subject, which seems to be quite common, i'm not saying very common, but enougth that there are a few person reporting the same issue

here it is:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/43634-k20d-vertical-strips-7.html

on the bad news, i have had my camera changed, but the new (actually refurbished) one was faulty too... but i know many people shoot in cold conditions without any problems

i have moved to switzerland now, and pentax there seems much more responsive than in quebec. i have sent it back again. we'll see whats next.
