I've had my K10D since 2007 and have always shot in RAW DNG. I'm thinking of giving it to my daughter so she can take better (and lots more) pics of the grand kids. So I've started to shoot JPGs and so far I like the results with the default settings. I'm curious if any JPG shooters have suggestions as to settings I might use?

Steve, if I'm shooting jpeg I pretty much keep settings as neutral as possible. I can always add vibrance, sharpening, even minor WB adjustment in post if I need to. Your daughter might prefer a bit more pop in her photos, so you might play with some of those settings (something I've never done).

Very nice Paul. I think I'll just leave it at default for now. I've decided to give her the K20D in any case.

I agree with Paul. I find that the default settings are usually good enough and a good place to start if any "tweaks" are needed. Often they are not.

Oh, wise move. Give her the K20D and keep the K10D. Just tell her it is later technology!

Seriously, what made you want to give up the K20D, instead of the (obviously superior ) K10D? You've posted many fine images with yours in these forums. I've been thinking of picking up a used K20D, since they share most of the same accessories.

It was a case of six of one, half a dozen of the other. Or was it eeny, meeny, miney mo?

Both are great in their own way. The K20D's sensor does higher ISO better than the K10D and I thought she'll be shooting indoors a lot. Even with the popup flash there'll be time when the ISO will be too high for the K10D. I'd miss either one of them. I got the K10D in Dec '07 and the K20D in Apr '08 so I've had them for awhile. Maybe I should give her the K-3?

The main difference being the change from CCD sensor to CMOS sensor. More MPs and higher max ISO and live view.

We all know that the K10D really loves red. But here is proof, that also green is revealed in its beauty:

interesting thread- I've been tossing the idea of selling my K10D to help procure some funds for the K3II I have my eye on, but I still enjoy shooting with it a great deal, and I like how it feels with the battery pack with its extra shutter & aperture wheels. I think I'm just going to hang on to it, I find it a lot more intuitive to use than the Kx I got for my wife, and although my NEX-5N has become my grab-n-go camera because of it's small size, video capability & excellent IQ, when I'm composing "serious" pictures I still always reach for the K10.

Green is pretty much the only colour I've got to work with where I live, so I'm glad I've got a camera that captures it well. Your shot shows how wonderfully good the K10D is at rendering different shades with subtlety and naturalness.

At ISO100, I think the 10MP CCD is still capable of holding its own against any CMOS sensor around.

Here's one from the weekend (also posted in the Takumar Club).
