Time to have a look back through the year's unprocessed rejects and see what turns up. Here's one from July with my 68 year old Kodak Anastigmat 50mm.

The K-10d at ISO 800

I was going through my photos and came across a time when I had brought along my K-10d as a backup. I shot a few images that day with the K-10d "just because" I had it along for the ride.

The setting was a church sanctuary. Experience has taught me to just dial in ISO 800 and call it a day. I would go to a higher ISO if I could, but I think the K-10d tops out at ISO 800 under these particular shooting conditions.

I also had along my trusty Tokina AT-X Pro 28-70 lens, and, voila, out pops the attached photo.

Hmm...perhaps I should be shooting a little more often with the K-10d

Definitely! That's a lovely shot with all the warmth and character that the K10D does so well.

ISO800 is fine as long as you avoid underexposure. Yes there's some noise, but it's more of a film-like grain effect than nasty digital colour noise.

Yup ISO 800 was just fine as long as you had enough light. This was shot at ISO 800 with junky old 20-80 Takumar A manual zoom lens.

ISO1600 is right on the ragged edge, but you can just about get away with it sometimes. I confess that I'm thinking of getting a K-S1 to use purely as a high ISO special. It would be great to be able to get clean shots at ISO3200.

Here's a couple at 1600:

That shot wouldn't be any better if the ISO noise was cleaner.. However.

It is nice (with my k5) to be able to just leave it at iso1600 and shoot at higher shutter speeds just because.

I wanted to try my new (to me) SMC Pentax-DA 15mm Limited on my K10D so I went to my favourite lighthouse at Norah Head on a beautiful spring day. (X posted)

Looks like a marriage made in heaven, Ray. I've often wondered how the 15mm would work on the K10D, and that's a beautiful example.

Thanks, Dave. Yes, they make a good pair. Very happy with the 15mm.

Well, I don't know what your criteria are so I won't try to influence you. I have wanted the DA 15mm for a while and it is a good fit for me. I wish you luck reaching your decision.

Nice one, Ray!

Wonderful autumn colours. It looks like you live in a beautiful part of the world.

That's a lovely moment captured Paul.

This one is just a test shot with a 1950s vintage Zeiss Sonnar 135mm/4.0 that I picked up on the local market last week. First impressions are that this 60 year old chrome-finished beauty is sharper and has better colour rendering than my K135mm/3.5.
