See, now there's the master at work, I'm striving to get mine to look a bit more like this look that comes so easily to you, but that's a very tough act to follow

As far as what I use - Corel Aftershot Pro works really well, I find, with CCD cameras. For my K-S1 I have to use either Rawtherapee or PDCU5, as Corel doesn't even support the K-S1...

I created my own presets in Corel AP - basically stumbled upon something I liked and then created a couple small variations. The black and white one is the only one where, after having applied my preset, I used a film emulation plugin that it has for a Kodak black and white film (I think I used Tri-X developing for 12 minutes, which is why it added quite a bit of contrast).

Speaking of contrast, I take contrast away - learned that from you. I take away a lot of contrast, but that gets added back with the color curve that I apply. The color curve is basically 80% of it, and the rest is the lower contrast as I said, and dealing with any problems in the darker areas.

Colorefex Pro is free (part of Google's Nik set) and is pretty easy and fun. You need an editor to run CFX. It may work with Corel, I'm not sure.

It does not... I don't think it works with RawTherapee either.

I have used the standalone Nik programs, mostly for when I do shoots for my friends.

Do the free versions work standalone?

As far as I know, only Analog Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro and Color Efex Pro do. Those are the ones I have installed, but I only ever use Analog Efex Pro.

Ahh... Colorefex Pro has some film emulation sets that really don't look like film but they do help digital images look more like film... more character IMO.
I've been playing with combos of Film Modern and Film Vintage added together.

I remember when the first AF lenses had big bumps on them for the AF mechanisms.

Over 37 years I've never personally had a shutter failure with a Pentax camera, but here's what I know about shutter failure in general, if it's any small use.

First, remember that the figure of 100,000 clicks is the Mean Time Before Failure, so it's just an average used to determine the length of the warranty rather than some dreaded number that will inevitably bring disaster along with it. Many cameras will develop problems before they reach that; many will happily go on to 200,000. If you're regularly machine-gunning a thousand frames a day in full speed burst mode, that's probably not going to help longevity, but only using the camera a couple of times a year for Christmas and birthdays won't do it much good either.

In the old film days of rubberised fabric shutters, the first sign of problems would be the slow shutter speeds stretching fractionally longer as the fabric literally stretched. But of course the K10D has got a metal shutter, so it's likely that the first hint of a problem will be with the camera mis-timing the flash sync, producing shots with only part of the frame actually lit by the flash. If it's a more severe problem, with the shutter heading for total failure, you'll see a horizontal black bar across the frame in every shot as the leading or trailing curtain sticks.

But realistically, if the camera is going to go mechanically wrong, it's much more likely to be the motor and gears that drive the mirror mechanism, long before the shutter goes.

And sadly, it just won't be economical to repair a K10D with a dead shutter. There are still lots out there in excellent condition, so it makes more sense to simply buy another one.
Lost shutter and spent $175 for new shutter assembly on K-7 at 30,000+, barely worth it, but with new shutter makes it like a new camera.

I have the M-version (derived from the early AF model) of this lens, and it's impressive! Enjoy the new (old) lens [quote=Swift1;3899253]

Love it! As a kid I would see those old Falcons everywhere.

Keeping to the automotive theme - here's a modified '50 Ford seen at a car show last Fall. DA18-55:

I was looking through some old folders today and found some car show images I had not processed. Here are a couple taken with my trusty K10D and the "Plastic Fantastic" SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL.
The only PP I did was to add a bit of sharpening and that probably was not really needed. Taken on 1 February 2015.

You used to be able to tell if you were following a Ford at night from a quarter mile back -- they all had those BIG ROUND tail lights for a series of several years, around the early 1960s.
