Yes, it does look a bit soft. What f stop did you use? Perhaps closing it down a little more might sharpen things up some.
This morning I posted a test of the lens at 3 apertures in the Bokeh thread:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/132843-bok...ml#post4036586

I switched the lens to my K110D, so I wouldn't have to look at sensor dirt when I stopped down to f/8.

Tripod.

I found one very beneficial with the Hanimex 135 I have, although I have also made some images hand held. Anymore I make use of the tripod for photos that I never used to use one for.
I was just moving around the front yard snapping pictures, testing the lens. I wasn't really paying attention to what the shutter speeds were. Tripods are for planned pictures. Besides, for that portrait, a little softness works.

Thank you, Niceshot and Ray. We're in a strangely un-Dartmoor-like spell of weather at the moment, where the sky has turned a weird blue-ish sort of colour and you can walk around outside without getting wet. Apparently it's something called "summer", which I'm told is quite normal in most parts of the world. Certainly makes photography a challenge, with such bright sunlight and such deep dark shadows. But never mind: it should be back to the decent, correct normality of rain and fog and gloom in a day or two.

Don't forget the sunscreen! Your weather seems to be the inverse of ours. I get tired of the constant bright glare (and heat!) of the sun, and love those rare, wet gloomy days. Luckily, we've had quite a number of damp overcast days this summer. Nice pony shot!

I'd be happy to send you some of the Kings Park thunderstorms if it would help! Need to wait till tonight to capture them and pack them for shipping, though.

Oh, yes please! We used to get sheet lightning that would light up the sky from end to end. Now those days, those long Long Island days back in the eighties. . . THOSE were summers!
