K10D reds!

As usual, the K10D tends to shine when the sun is out. I now wear two cameras on my lunch walks (yes, very geeky) and the K-50 doesn't see as much use as the K10D, for sure...

Ah, yes, K10D reds are unmistakeable. And you have retained some nice detail there. Well done.

Thank you. It's funny, I took two pictures a few seconds apart - the light changed, I think, because in the first one the reds became too strong and details were lost. And this was the 2nd one and somehow the details were retained. I'm now trying to figure out what happened so I don't rely so much on dumb luck

Someone said the other day on another thread that the difference between an amateur and a pro is that when a pro gets a good shot, it's on purpose...

...on that basis I remain strictly an amateur but at least I'm having fun.

Older big truck engines would get rebuilt many times. They were designed to be rebuildable. New pistons, reconditioned crankshaft and rods, reconditioned cylinder head, etc.
I suppose I should have also said that diesel truck engines usually average a half a million miles between an overhaul.

But it is not uncommon to see well cared for engines exceed a million miles before being torn down.

Gas engines too.

Ya just gotta change the oil and coolant as required.

A couple shots from an evening at the botanical gardens. It was starting to get dark, so I had to push the iso to 800. F35-80:

You beat me to it, Paul. I was about to say something like that.

I am very guilty on both counts too. The fun is what keeps me going.

You've done it again, Paul. Two very nice images and at this size the 800 ISO is not apparent.

Eight years ago this month.

A long day on the road was nearly over. Starting in Indianapolis, Indiana, I had about 100 miles to go, I was going to stop just West of Omaha, Nebraska at the Flying J in Gretna.

I was in my first truck, Monstro's big brother, Blue. I had a load of electric forklifts, loaded in Richmond, Virginia, headed for Vancouver, Canada, via our yard in Arlington, Washington.

I was about 3/4 of the way cross Iowa, when not one, but two of the 8 tires on my wagon exploded, the rear left pair. Ripped the mudflap off, blew out the taillights and ripped the wiring to shreds, and bent the trailer up a bit.

Oh, and it was a Friday,

At about 7:30PM.

In Adair, Iowa.

Population 781.

And they were all at home, having a nice dinner, enjoying the end of a busy week in America's Heartland.

After a significant delay, I managed to get a guy to forgo an evening with friends, tossing back Budweiser, and playing pool to get dirty replacing my two shredded tires.

While waiting I pulled my trusty K10D out and snapped off some shots.

It took two jacks to lift the trailer. I think the airbag suspension was trying to self level, and when he jacked the trailer frame up the airbags fought back.

After the tires were fixed I drove another 75 miles to Council Bluffs, Iowa to the TA, a 24 hour truck stop with a shop, and got the lighting repaired.

Then I called it a day.

And so did my K10D.

On a very cold and windy day, a quick test of a very old preset Sankyo Kohki Komura f2.5 105mm (with a 48mm filter thread size). I purchased this many years ago from a work colleague for $25.

Thanks Ray. Shooting in RAW helps for sure . I used the AMAZE iso 800 profiles in RawTherapee. Nice images from you and Steve as well!
