Prince Charles in Tavistock this morning. With the Takumar 17mm because I wanted to get an overview of the scene. The slick professionalism of the whole operation was quite mesmerising.

You certainly achieved your aim, Dave. Beautifully exposed and showing the action in a way that we normally don't see. I wonder what Charles was saying to the person in the crowd. Maybe "Do you think I will ever be king?".

Excellent documentary shot, David

Plenty of well-dressed close protection detail in evidence The guy near the centre of the frame (looking to our left) and directly behind HRH immediately caught my eye... I think he's going for the 007 look

Thanks Ray. I was definitely aiming to give a sense of what it's like to be in the crowd rather than just a close-up of HRH.

Thanks Mike. Yep, I think the royal protection guys must have studied all the Daniel Craig 007 movies frame-by-frame. A few minutes after I took this one, the one with the sunglasses came over and took a very suspicious look at my camera from about ten feet away. In hindsight, I suppose my GX-10 with all the markings painted out and a Takumar on the front probably didn't look anything like the sort of cameras he's used to. I just sort of held it up so he could see it and gave what I hoped was a non-threatening smile, and after a few seconds of hard staring he went away.

That's a winner, Dave. The photobombing dog at left is a bonus

This is the photo that really rekindled my interest in photography. The subject here is my neighbor, Tara Bassett. She’d been invited to write a pet column for a local magazine. On her first article the free lancer was unable to make it to her photo shoot - car problem or something. She called me and asked, “Do you have a good camera?” I said, “Yes.” “Grab it and let’s go!”

I grabbed my K10D with my Pentax F50mm 1,7 and a couple Sigma zooms in my ancient canvas camera bag, All the lenses I had inherited in 2005. I checked the battery level and headed out. I shot some photos of people walking or running with their dogs for this particular article and afterward shot many shots of Tara and her own dogs. This is the one she chose as her byline photo for every column.

The magazine eventually folded but she wrote an article about service dogs for veterans that she had me shoot. Later she did a big article on the homeless for a new 144 page glossy quarterly in Louisville. They used 8 of my photos in a 10 page article including a two page full bleed spread. Seeing one’s work in print in a glossy magazine was huge in motivating me to get back into photography as my primary hobby.

Today my K10D got some work because my randomly picked Sigma 17-70mm 2.8-3.5 won't work on my K-5 anymore.

To be clear, by the time I had the opportunity to shoot the article on the plight of the homeless, I had upgraded to a K70 and a K3-II after selling the K10D and later regretting it and buying it back.
