just a thought

Well, I'm simply using my Flickr account for posting here. Not sure, but I think goats is linking to his Google Photos account. Myself, I have trouble using Google Photos for this purpose. It seems to only allow me to share older photos. Newer ones, from this year for example, won't appear for me or anyone else. This problem was discussed in these forums earlier this year (sorry, can't find the thread).

I found out in the last few days that if I log out of google photos, suddenly I couldn't see some of my photos here, too. I started converting my google albums to "shared." Once I did that, I could see the photos here even when I was logged out of Google Photos. At another forum, where I only occasionally post a photo, I found out a long time ago that I had to put photos I wanted to post there in a "shared" Google Photos album, but, until now, I never had to do to post here.

From my years on the road, back in 2010.

I moved this load from Portland, Oregon to Thetford Mines, Quebec. In these shots I had just entered Nebraska from Wyoming and had stopped for lunch, and thought it was a great place to make a couple quick images with my K10D.

I did have to watch out for rattlesnakes though.

This post, together with the next one, show the changes of lighting through the development of blue hour, taken with my K-10D and FA 28-80mm. Not knowing much about lens quality in 2009 when these shots were taken, (as you might have noticed) I used the FA 28-80mm as my walkaround lens with my K-10D. It was originally purchased with my PZ-20 due to it's ability to take advantage of the power zoom capability of the PZ-20 body, and transitioned to the K-10D for the same reason. These images were taken in 2009 from a boat (dinner cruise!) on the Seine, which just happened to be (coincidentally, because I never could have planned this!) motoring past the Eiffel Tower as blue hour started and ended. The first 4 images (in this post) cover a period of about 2 minutes as the light transitions from just prior to the start of blue hour to that over the very beginning of blue hour. The next 3 images (in the next post) cover roughly the next minute of changing light as blue hour continues to develop. And the final image (also in the next post) was shot about an hour into the continued changing light ending after blue hour is over. Until this series of shots, I had no idea that blue hour developed this rapidly!

Having read all of the criticism of the FA 28-80mm lens in the lens reviews, I've got to say that I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the images I've gotten with it over the years. I don't know if that's because I happened to get a good copy of the lens, because I'm not dealing with the edges of the image circle since it's being used on an apsc body, or because it's the magic of the K-10D body!

Thanks Dave The island was formed long ago by volcanic activity, hence the dramatic landscape. Along the coastal areas there are many hotels for tourists, yet some people still farm terraces carved into the hillside as in lower half of this picture.

The limited dynamic range of the K10 is actually an advantage in this type of shot, adding contrast to the scene.
