One day I would like to attend a Grand Slam event, for us the Aussie Open in Melbourne.

Dave,
The whole Grand Slam Event is a massive spectacle that's well worth attending if you can. Unfortunately, the cost of doing so has gone up astronomically over the years. We used to spend about $100 per ticket to attend the Men's or Women's finals, and ended up in the nosebleed section at the absolute top of the stadium. That's why I used my FA 100-300mm lens for the shot. Now the cost is approaching $400 - $500 for the same seats, with the most expensive seats going for thousands! We now go to the semi-finals if we can get tickets and pretty much gave up on the finals due to the cost. Buying 4 tickets to the finals at that price is just too much.

Pretty much every sports photo I see nowadays is a long telephoto close-up of a competitor, with no sense of context, which tells me basically nothing. It's great to see a shot that shows things in a more interesting way.
Thanks, Dave. I'm glad you like it. Considering that I was using the much maligned FA 100-300 on my K10D, I was very pleased with the shot. As you can see, I converted it to b&w. It looks much better (i.e. sharper) in b&w, which also surprised me. Nevertheless, if all of my shots came out that well, I'd be a pretty happy photographer!
