Great picture and a lovely use of B&W. Well done as always.

Actually, I've seen at least one linesman get hit at every match that I've been to. As far as the US Open is concerned, I've been to five finals matches and seen one or more hit each time. I have no idea how many other matches I've seen but, as I said, at least one per match!

Who said Pentax can't handle action shots?

Linesmen / woman are there for alignment of your serve...so get hit often and the photographers well collateral damage.

Pentax can't.......has been dis-spelled by many since that idea was thought up

I was being sarcastic with the "Pentax can't" statement... which is still heard around and about! As for the photographers getting hit, I stand by my statement that I haven't been to a high level match where at least one photographer in the well, if there is one, hasn't been hit. That being said, most courts used for lower level matches don't have one so it tends to be a problem for the semi-finals and above.

Great shot that really shows the power in her serve. I love shots like this that show things in their wider context, which to my mind gives more of a sense of what it's like to actually be there. Pretty much every sports photo I see nowadays is a long telephoto close-up of a competitor, with no sense of context, which tells me basically nothing. It's great to see a shot that shows things in a more interesting way.

Dave,

The whole Grand Slam Event is a massive spectacle that's well worth attending if you can. Unfortunately, the cost of doing so has gone up astronomically over the years. We used to spend about $100 per ticket to attend the Men's or Women's finals, and ended up in the nosebleed section at the absolute top of the stadium. That's why I used my FA 100-300mm lens for the shot. Now the cost is approaching $400 - $500 for the same seats, with the most expensive seats going for thousands! We now go to the semi-finals if we can get tickets and pretty much gave up on the finals due to the cost. Buying 4 tickets to the finals at that price is just too much.

Thanks, Dave. I'm glad you like it. Considering that I was using the much maligned FA 100-300 on my K10D, I was very pleased with the shot. As you can see, I converted it to b&w. It looks much better (i.e. sharper) in b&w, which also surprised me. Nevertheless, if all of my shots came out that well, I'd be a pretty happy photographer!

Some of you know I like to make videos about the old Pentax gear I acquire. I figure it's good to get some more Pentax content out there on the 'tube. Maybe inspire some people not to spend an arm and a leg on the latest tech when there's awesome older cameras out there that perform amazingly. I've just been having so much fun with this camera I went ahead and made a video for it, even though I think I've only had it a month or two.

Here's to many more shots captured with this camera
