Fantastic shots, you used great glass but of course you also have a great eye for composing.

Go for it, I think you'll love it. It's also worth keeping an eye out for the Samsung GX-10 version, which is exactly the same camera apart from one or two purely cosmetic details and usually goes for slightly lower prices. I wouldn't want to be without my GX-10.

First snap of the decade, with the 18-55mm. Not the WR one, the "I don't care if it gets wet" one.

Thanks Ray. It's right at the end of a three hour trudge through freezing drizzle, almost back at my car which is parked just behind those threes. Soaked to the skin, fingers so cold that I could barely feel the camera in my hands, and completely fed up because I'd been determined not to go home without a photo but hadn't shot a single frame. Then, as always seems to happen, I got this one a hundred yards away from the sanctuary of my car. They'd probably been there all along, but I hadn't seen them in the heavy mist when I first set out.

At least I got to go home to my nice warm cottage and have a refreshing mug of coffee. The poor ponies will have had to stick it out for yet another night in those abysmal conditions.

I really feel for you, Dave, in such appalling conditions. You have exhibited great dedication and it shows the stark difference between an English winter and an Aussie summer. Tomorrow in Sydney's west it is predicted to get to 41C (105.8F). It won't get to that where I am close to the ocean. Stay warm and dry. I'll be thinking of you.

That is some dedication, Dave! All to bring us some ponies! I feel very undeserving of so much effort and very appreciative! That picture did bring a smile to my face, it is gorgeous and a view of Dartmoor I hadn't seen before. Another one of your "this must be printed and on a wall" pictures.

One of these days I'm going to get my dream shot of a pony at moonrise, but this one definitely isn't it. If I'm lucky there's one night a year when the conditions are right, and then there's less than a five minute gap when the moon will be in the frame. . . and of course the darn ponies are constantly on the move. I think my big mistake with this one was to use the M200mm/4.0 on a 2X teleconverter, which forced me to use a tripod (which I hate), which meant that I couldn't keep up with the ponies as they moved around.

Next time it'll be the 200mm handheld then crop. Or of course it would be easy if I could afford to throw 5000 worth of the latest hi-tec gear at it. . .

(The dream shot is the moon just as it crosses the horizon, with a pony at just the right distance to be framed in silhouette within the orb.)
