Great job everyone! Some really gorgeous images in this page, and some Dartmoor history to boot! And ponies, of course, for our delight.

A beautiful composition and combination of colours. Very well captured, Paul.
Appreciate it, Ray. Sometimes I think I was more skilled back in my early days!

Well, we know that there were people here as far back as the stone age because we've got the stone rows and stone circles that they built, as well as lots of burial kists. Stone age flint tools and various bronze age artefacts have been discovered on the moor, along with some very rare organic remains that have been carbon dated. The climate of the world's ancient past is known by methods such as studying Antarctic ice cores, so we know that this area was warmer during the stone age and would have been a much more hospitable environment then than it is nowadays. So lots of different researchers in lots of different fields have combined their various areas of expertise. They've studied the evidence carefully and submitted their work to a rigorous peer review process, and as a result they are able to say with a high level of confidence how things must have been here many thousands of years ago. And of course, as scientists they will always keep working to improve their methods, and will always accept any new evidence that might turn up to prove that they've been wrong about something in the past.
Pentax Forum is great--fantastic learning opportunities here from colleagues from around the world! Thanks for the information.

This picture (for me) exhibits the 3d quality I sometimes see in K10 images, I can't put my finger on it but it's not just the effect of depth of field.

I was given a 2X KAX Macro TELEPLUS MC7 and thought I should try it out with my DA 50mm f1.8 as it indicates that is the focal length that should be used. It was given to me by my cousin and it belonged to her father.
It works fine in Manual mode and AV. Of course, it did not come with a manual but I think I have figured what the markings on it mean. It is extendable and will provide a 1:1 image.

The first image was hand held and was a tad soft so the second and third images were taken using a SLIK Mini-Pro III tripod. I am fairly sure that my Tamron 90mm Macro could probably do better but I think that this old device has acquitted itself pretty well. It was worth giving it a try. There are quite a few posts in this forum discussing its use.

f3.5, 1/50 sec, ISO 100.

f16, 1/5 sec, ISO 100, about 1:1

f16, .4 sec, ISO 100, about 1:1

Is it necessary to make so much noise about the qualities of the K10d?

I am trying to get one cheaply, everybody laughs at me when I mention my bid.
Thanks for making the K10d into a sort of champion. Not a chance to get one for the pocket money I had in mind.
K10d's with low clicks are fetching serious money.

I noticed that too. I had a quick look on eBay recently and there were some very nice examples there but they were asking big bucks for them.
I just hope that I don't have to replace mine. It will be 13 years old this year and it's still performing well. May it continue keeping on keeping on.

This would be a good entry for the mono landscape competition on Pentax Forums this month.

Would be nice to see a K10 win it!

Thanks Russ. I take that as a genuine compliment and perhaps I'll put it into the draw just to try to strike a blow for all of us K10D/GX-10 fans. Winning would somewhat besmirch my self-image as the guy who sticks a finger up to the establishment though.
