Yikes, that vignetting at f/5.6 looks worse at web size. It's barely noticeable at full resolution.
Ah, but the vignetting adds to the atmosphere of the picture. It makes it a little bit gloomy and makes the pony the center of the picture.

Thank you. After playing around with it a bit more I decided that I prefer it with the vignette, for exactly the reasons you describe.

Anxious to get a chance to use the recently bought K10d.
The camera comes with a KatzEye focusing screen with a split.
KatzEye closed down several years ago, the lady owner did not find a buyer for the company.

The K10d is primarily intended for use out doors.
In the studio I rely on the K5II as my favourite camera unless I do portraits in medium format.
That is a different story.

I used to have such a screen for my k10d too. It is a shame they are no longer produced.

Rather old shots I just stumpeled over while sorting old data:

Edit: If I remember correctly I was testing a Tamron 70-300 back in 2006 when they were taken.

Paul, you see chance to amaze me time and time again.
These kind of images take away my mixed feelings for zoom lenses.
I can hardly imagine what this image would look like with a prime lens.

Thanks! Well, not all zoom lenses are created equal The 18-135 is capable and well-regarded for a consumer zoom. There are many other even more capable (and expensive) zooms out there. I mostly enjoy shooting with primes, but if I need something versatile with good IQ, the 18-135 is usually the one I reach for.

Field D, with a Quantaray 28-90 on K10D:
