Paul, I really like the effect of the plant in the second photo; very striking! Those Sigmas do a great job, as well as the operator!
Thank you, Carol. That yucca was covered with tiny bugs that day, which maybe added a little something to the shot...? That little Sigma 28-90 is a pretty nice inexpensive walkaround lens, that gives a bit more reach than the 18-55. They can be had for around $25 or so.

10pm here and I'm drunk too (Australian Shiraz, appropriately). I'm looking at that photo and listening to "Ocean" by the Velvet Underground and the effect is most satisfying. Nice one tromboads.

No wonder they call it "The Shipwreck Coast". That sea looks pretty angry.

That's a beautiful B&W. The contrast of the light flower against the darker background is wonderful.

And the whites are not blown out which is often the case. Nice to see some detail there.

I like - and that Tak 28 is so nice...the b/w shot is great too, as Ray says:

I call this "The Dumpster Coast" - the floodwaters of Lake Grapevine have turned the parking lot into a beach. K10D + DA18-55

It's like a scene from one of those movies where civilisation as we know it has come to an end.

Never again. The only kit lens I'm planning on using from now on is the M50mm/2.0 that came with my K1000 in 1980. Although, having said that, the new 18-50mm retractable looks like it might be worth a try sometime. . .

EDIT: Here are some snaps from a walk this evening with my 1947 vintage Kodak Anastigmat 50mm/3.5.

Here's a 68 year old uncoated lens shooting into the light:

There's a quiet calm bliss in shooting with this 1930s designed 4 element tessar that makes it strangely addictive.

tessars are the best

Images look lovely. I love how warm that image with the sun in top left, horses walking away.
