Thanks for your comments, Dave, Ray, and dti88!

dti88: Those are some amazing shots! Hope you'll hang around here for awhile with the rest of us "obsolete camera users"!

I believe I read in one of the threads here, that Katzeye was re-opened; I'll try to find it.

Here is the thread:

Down the road I plan on getting the S2; but for now I'm so happy with my K10D's! The K10D has so many options, that I'm still only scratching the surface on getting the best out of all the settings available! This camera is truly remarkable, and will serve anyone extremely well for it's lifetime!

Here's one taken, handheld with a Sigma 28-80, in the macro setting; manual.

Thanks Steve, I was surprised to see the wing pattern as the bee hovered; good surprise though!

It's mindblowing that the bee's wings are a blur at 1/500 -- shows wonderfully well how fast those little wings must really be moving. And you've captured it with the rich luminous rendering that the K10D does so well.

Thanks so much! It is indeed hard to believe how fast those wings must be moving!

What are the advantages/disadvantages of editing RAW files, and converting to JPEG, in camera?

Hi Carol,

Advantages: it's quick and a bit of fun to do once in a while.

Disadvantages: Small screen to work on, lack of control, lack of computing power. If you are serious about editing RAW files (and we all should be IMHO) then you do it on a computer with a large monitor.

Yes, that wing pattern blur is amazing. A nice bonus...along with the rich colours from the K10D. Well done.

Paul, I prefer to think of myself as a "user of an obsolete camera" rather than "an obsolete camera user". Although I am probably heading that way.

if you think the K10D has lots of options then don't get a K-3. It is loaded with many more options and it takes a bit of getting used to. I don't know them all yet like I do with my K10D.

Ray, thank you!

I've not tried RAW as of yet; well I did, but could not open them. I will give it a try again with Elements or FastStone. I'll give the in-camera a try, for the fun of it!

PS Elements from version 11 Adobe Camera Raw 7.4 is now available for Photoshop Elements 11 will take you into Adobe Camera RAW which is where you want to be to get all the advantages of RAW processing. FastStone (which I also use) will read the RAW file but does not include a RAW processor. All FastStone does is present you with the JPG file which is embedded in each RAW file. It's a good starting point but it is not RAW processing.

Ray, I don't want to get off topic here on the K10D thread, so I'll start a new thread re/Elements & Camera Raw in a more appropriate forum, as I do have more questions.

Thank you! Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Nice shot Carol, I stay clear of bees since I'm allergic. I almost died back in 1979, they had to jump start my heart, so tend to avoid them.

I was going through some old K10D photos from back in 2008 and thought I would share some here.

These were all taken with an old Takumar 70-200 manual zoom lens. The same lens I used on my K1000, basically a junk lens by today's standards . Taken at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago

Looking through these old photos makes me want to get the K10D and the old Takumars out and some old school shooting.

Michael
