Both share the same body, controls, and menus. The K10D's CCD sensor renders nice sharp images and colors but needs good light to keep the ISO below 400. At 10MP there isn't as much ability to crop and still print large. The K20D's CMOS sensor is a first generation Samsung sensor and while it also renders sharp images many feel it hasn't the apparent sharpness of the K10D. The K20D does well up to ISO 1600 as long as the images are not underexposed. I don't intend to sell either of mine as I like them too much.

Unfortunately the ribs looked better on the grill than on the plate. I know that there's not much meat on back ribs but there was way too much fat. Have to try a real butcher next time.

Wow, there's been a wonderful burst of energy here in the K10D Club over the past few days. Here's one with the Zenitar 16mm at Great Staple Tor on a rare sunny afternoon. One of those shots that has to be in B&W to bring out the forms of the rocks:

Here's a recent pic from my K10D. It got chosen for a free enlargement by our local camera store. The wind was blowing so hard that day that it was hard to get any flower pics sharp. The ones in the foreground of this pic aren't, but they're close enough. lol

Scope shots

EDIT: I've just looked up the PF-80ED and apparently it's over 500mm focal length, so now I'm VERY impressed by the bird shot. How are you focusing that beast of a lens -- using the focus confirmation light, or have you got a split screen installed?
The Groosebeak shots were taken through the scope with my K10d from about thirty yards out and then cropped and the deer was taken through the scope with an old 3mp nikon 995 at about the same distance. The the birds on the feeder where taken through the scope with a Sony. The globe shot was taken with my K10D, just something different. The flare is kinda cool, and I needed a tripod.

Ray, thank you!

I've not tried RAW as of yet; well I did, but could not open them. I will give it a try again with Elements or FastStone. I'll give the in-camera a try, for the fun of it!
carol, Granted, I'm new to the whole digital photo thing, but the photos app on my mac will process RAW files and let you export in many other formats. Plus it has a basic set of editing tools as well.

Two pic's from Shigatse, the major Tibetan city between Lhasa and Mt. Everest. Taken during my 2nd trip to Tibet, December 2009 by my K10d. Tamron AF 18-250. Furniture production alongside the road. And a young girl - where her skin tells us that the sunshine is strong up at 3800 meter altitude (12.500 feet). Up at the roof of the world... Lakes and rivers were frozen. By DCU I've adjusted whitebalance and reduced yellow and red col.
12 months ago a new railroad line from Lhasa to Shigatse was opened. Six years ago it took five hours by bus... Amazing landscape... Since 2010 Tibet has been closed for individual tourists. Unfortunately - because it's a perfect place to visit with a K10d.

Wow, that second shot looks almost like a Kodachrome. Wonderful stuff. I'd love to see more shots from that trip.

In my town of Brentwood, Essex ( England) we had a one=off performance by an American Fife& Drum Band, dressed as in 1775 -- I took photos on my 2007 bought K10D with the 18-55mm 'Kit' lens SMC Pentax DA 3.5-5.6 AL and had a set published in the Brentwood Edition of the 'Yellow Advertiser' newspaper.
I used a Sunpak auto 36FD flash as fill-in when necessary.

Which is the best lens to use right now for MAINLY Landscape shots???

Hi Love all the pics that have been posted in the last month or so.

And as I have just taken the K10D out of hibernation just have to ask to the opinions on which is the best lens to use for MAINLY Landscape shots --->>>

The Pentax FA 1:3.5-4.7 28-80mm Power Zoom
or the--->>>
Sigma 18-50mm 1:3.5-5.6 DC

Cheers for years

There really isn't a "best lens" for anything Colin. They beauty in all this is that you get to choose what you like the look of the most!

I at times enjoy shooting landscapes with longer lenses, and at others I enjoy short focusing distances and medium length lens. You need to explore and decided what you like the look of

There is no spoon!

Take both and see what you end up doing / selecting to be captured.

For what its worth both lenses will be "sharp" enough I'm sure.

#Miss you K10 guys and gals :P I was out in the snow last weekend with my K5 and thought to myself. My K10 never got a chance to go to the snow. .. "sniff"

As was stated already there really is no "best" lens. I had a Sigma 18-50 2.8 mounted on my K10D for years. When shooting landscapes I normally kept it at f8-f10, although f5.6 would be ok most times. At f11 diffraction set in. With the Pentax you may notice slightly richer colors and higher contrast. I have found Sigmas have a bit more subdued colors. When using Sigma on my K10D I boosted the in camera saturation and contrast. For wide angle shots there is a huge difference between 28mm and 18mm. The difference between 50mm and 80mm may not be as noticeable. It really depends on the type of landscapes you want to photograph. I now have a DA*16-50 and would not leave home without it.

Thank you Both for the insights

Tries the 28-80 yesterday. Then tried the Sigma 18-50 this morning which was the lens that came with my Pentax *ist D.
Like what I see with both Lenses although the 18 is much more pleasing with Landscapes. Although I saturated all in ACR.
May have to consider getting a Pentax 18-55 but only time will tell.

So for now we are a "Happy Camper"

Cheers for Years
Colin
